A while later, John was sitting under his favorite tree, talking to Savanah, and listening to her stories of the Afterlife. There were questions he wanted the answers to, and yet there was some he was afraid to ask. Occasionally, he'd glance over, and watch as yet another rabbit emerged from the garden, to end up having a quick chat with James, Julia, and Hanna, before heading to the barn.
"Why rabbits?" he asked. "Why did you take the form of a rabbit?"
Savanah shrugged her shoulders. "I do not know."
"To be fair, none of it makes sense," said John. "I mean, I know that Millie did do her business, and said waste was turned into fertilizer, which was then spread over the garden. That being said, Master Robert did buy a special fertilizer pill that was supposed to improve the garden crops, and those plants grew like crazy. Then, the rabbits came, ate them, and then one of them became you."
"Maybe it was something in the pill," Savanah suggested.
"Possible," said John. "I mean, maybe the rabbit ate a plant that was fertilized, in part, by your remains. Still, it's not like there's any other Savanah 4821s running around if that were the case."
"Maybe because there's only one of me," Savanah suggested. "Like maybe the rabbit ate enough of my remains that I was able to take it over. Maybe it's because I only have one soul."
"Scary idea," said John. "Good theory though."
Savanah leaned up against him. "I did miss you. You were good to me in my final moments."
"Were you at ease with what happened?" John asked.
"You did what you were supposed to do," said Savanah. "You were there for me."
It was then that John looked, and saw Robert coming over.
"Savanah," he said. "I need to talk to John."
"Alright," said Savanah. She gave John a kiss. "I want to finish what we started, before I died."
"Alright," said John. "See you in a bit."
Savanah got up, and walked away.
Robert sat down. "At least four hundred rabbits, and counting, on our farm alone."
"What news did you learn?" John asked.
"A lot of farms, and gardeners, have had rabbits that were possessed, or whatever, by Past Livestock or Past Meals," said Robert. "Usually from within the past ten years, but some are from prior decades, and a few from prior centuries. Most of the time, they seem to be in a state of shock, whether it be because they came back to life, or in the body of a large rabbit, or something else. For the most part, most of these Rabbitted Livestock/Meals seem to be alright, and wish their prior Owners/Predators no harm, but others..... Let's just say I phoned the Fang Residence - seems that Marcus and his wife Marissa are under siege in their home by their Past Livestock. Last clear words I got out of the bat were, 'They're setting the place on Fire! I've lost control! Marissa! We have to fly!' He said something else, but hung up in the middle of whatever it was."
John snorted. "Fitting."
"You've never liked him, have you?" Robert asked.
"I've hated him for twenty years," said John. "Killed my mother and father. He poached my mother and I, braindeaded her, tried to do the same to me, but father broke into the place, freed me, and set the place on fire. A million dollars in overburnt human meat that couldn't be sold."
"I see," said Robert. "Illegal blood production facility."
"Sounds about right," said John. "I wonder what's going to happen."
