Chapter #11

John wishes them good luck

by: BIG BAD WOLF is Merry Author IconMail Icon
"Well, good luck in your search for them," said John. "Maybe you'll stop by the Wolfe Family Farm - that way Wyona could say 'Good-Bye' to the others, especially Katie 2749, or rather, Katie Wrangler."

Rex nodded. "I'll see about that. She your shared daughter?"

John nodded. He looked at Wyona. "Should you become Free, head to the Wrangler herd. Ask for a female my age named Bella. Tell her, 'Hill by a stream, with yellow daffodils.' She'll know that I sent you."

"Is that a passphrase or something?" Wyona asked.

John chuckled. "No, but I tried to become part of the Wrangler herd through befriending her - I offered her a bunch of yellow daffodils while she was standing on a hill by a stream. Of course, I wasn't the only lone feral trying to join the herd, only they tried to force their way into it, and they attacked me, and attempted to rape Bella - I managed to get him off her, so he tried to kill me - she used a knife on him. He was still alive when her father and a few of the others got to us - she told them what happened - they hung him. I was invited to joining the herd leader's fire, and few months after that Bella asked me to be her Mate."

Wyona chuckled nervously. "Explains why you speak fondly of her."

A smile came to John's lips. He then looked at Rex. "You take good care of Wyona, and if I find out that you got her killed, or worse, I'll hunt you down, and cut your heart out."

Rex chuckled. "I'll keep that in mind - I remember covering up more than a few of your kills - bears and rival poachers, or accidents, for a good number of them."

"I also remember putting an arrow in the vampire that was going to cut your heart out," said John. "As it is, I do have a favor to ask of you."

"Depends on the favor," said Rex.

"Investigate Marcus Fang," said John. "I know he's involved in illegal blood production - so that he can avoid paying income taxes and such - I escaped from one such place a few years before we met, both my mother and father were killed there - mother by braindeading, and father from injuries sustained while trying to free us, as the place burned down. I doubt it's the only place that Marcus owns like that. As it is, if you hear about a large rustling operation, where all of the Wolfes' livestock are stolen, within five years, or so, and Marcus is still in operation, please pin it on him."

"Sounds like an Escape Plan," said Rex. "Are you sure that you want to tell me about this?"

John grinned. "Yes, because you know what I can do if you tried to kill me."

Rex chuckled. "I'll keep that in mind."

At this, Robert came into the hallway, with the nervous female human pet. "What did I miss?"

John chuckled. "Let's put it this way, Robert - you aren't the only werewolf that I saved from being killed by a dangerous enemy."

Robert blinked. "You saved him in the past?"

Rex nodded. "I was a rookie agent that bit off more than he could chew, when I went after a gang of murdering poachers, alone. They would have killed me, if not for a certain Feral that decided to aid me. After it was done, he slipped away, and I got the Credit, and the start of my reputation. After that, I covered up a number of the killings he did, because, after all, I owed him."

Robert chuckled. "I know the feeling. My youngest wouldn't be around, if he hadn't saved my life."

The werewolf farmer looked at the werewolf agent. "Stop by the Wolfe Family Farm sometime. Might have a nice Meal for you."

"I don't eat human meat, unless I have a good reason for it," said Rex.

Robert nodded. "I can respect that. Got a preference?"

"Venison, if you got it," said Rex.
