The Werewolf Bride

by: Johnny Foxx Author IconMail Icon
(This storyline will be somewhat different from the rest. I got the idea to do a sort of retelling of the classic story The Princess Bride, but with a few twists. This will no doubt largely be between me and my friend, Big Bad Wolf, but anyone who wishes to join in is more than welcome.)

"ACHOO!"

Billy had recently come down with a rather nasty illness, and had been in bed for about three days recovering. Robert decided to take a day off to read Billy a story in an attempt to cheer him up. He already had a special story in mind, and was scanning a bookshelf looking for it. When he found it, John happened to come in and see the book.

"Mind if I look at that a moment?" He asked "I just want to see something." Robert handed him the book, and John quickly skimmed through it. "Same shitting paper as the one I read when I was younger - I always preferred my father's version."

"What do you mean?" Robert asked.

John Chuckled "He made Buttercup and Westly secret lovers, with Buttercup actually caring for him, and instead of selling Westly to gain the money to pay for one bill, she rented him out, like a Breeder, as he was of a Prime Grade line - gave him more of an incentive to come back, and not just join a Feral herd."

"I'm surprised that a Feral would go that route."

John chuckled again, "Truth be told, father wasn't born a Feral - he heard the revised version from his father, who was a 10thgen livestock, and my father was 11thgen, meaning he should of been Free." Rather than pressing the issue, Robert nodded and made his way upstairs to Billy's room. He opened the door to find Billy laying in bed, letting out the occasional sniffle.

"Feeling any better, son?"

Billy shook his head. "Well, maybe this will help." Robert sat on the end of the bed and showed Billy the book. "A book? How will that make me better?" Billy asked "I've always found that whenever I'm feeling sick, an hour or two of reading helps. Besides this is no ordinary book."

"What's so special about it?"

"It's only one of the greatest stories ever told. Want to give it a try?" Billy shrugged "I guess. It's not like it can make me feel any worse." Robert chuckled, then turned to the first page.

(From this point on, Robert will narrate the story with occasional interjections from Billy.)

Long ago, in the country of Florin, there lived a beautiful werewolf named Buttercup. Nothing brought Buttercup more enjoyment than riding her horse around her farm, and bossing around her human slave, Westley. Everyday, she'd order him to do something, and he would reply "As you wish." Over time, whenever he said "As you wish", she came to realize that what he actually meant was "I love you." What surprised her more was that she also realized that she loved him as well.

"Wait a minute." Billy interrupted "Is this some mushy romance story? And who ever heard of loving a human?" "It's only a story, like a fairy tale." Robert said "It doesn't have to be realistic. Don't worry, it gets better. Just keep listening."

Westley happened to be of Prime grade, so when Buttercup found herself owing a rather hefty debt, she had little choice but to sell him to a more wealthy farm across the sea. "I really don't want to do this." She told him, but he reassured her that he would always find his way back to her. But the ship that was taking Westley to his new home was attacked by the notorious Dread Pirate Roberts, who never left prisoners alive.

This seemed to pique Billy's interest, as he sat up a little straighter.

When Buttercup recieved the news that Westley had been murdered, she shut herself in her home for days, neither eating or sleeping as she grieved. "I will never love again." She swore in her mourning of the only man she'd truly cared for.
