Deep in the woods far from any settlements, two human herds had gathered for a special occasion. It was known amongst humans as a Joining, basically a wedding in layman's terms. Once the ceremony was complete, both herds would be considered family to each other, and thus would protect and care for one another whenever needed.
Among the crowds of feral humans was a single wolf, Robert. It so happens that the one being joined was the son of his longtime friend and Prime grade breeder human, John. One of his previous herd members, the Wranglers, had sent a messenger to the Wolfe Family Farm to inform him of the joining. John, having not seen his son in a decade since the incident with Robert and the bear, all but begged his Master to let him attend.
Robert, figuring as long as he was supervised so as not to attempt to escape, decided he would allow it, on the condition he accompanied him. Of course, when the two of them arrived, the humans were none too happy to have a wolf in their midst, some even drawing weapons on them.
It took John explaining the situation to calm everyone down, though naturally, the others were weary of Robert's presence. He sat on a fallen log beside John as the two of them enjoyed some Strong Juice together, brewed specially for the occasion by the herd.
"So, which one is your son's bride to be?" Robert asked as he took a swig. John shook his head. "Don't know. Her name's Sarah Barrows from what I've been told, but I haven't seen her yet. We'll get a look at her during the ceremony."
"I'm not really familiar with Human customs. What exactly does this ceremony entail?"
"Well, the Keeper of each herd, basically like a priest, gives a little speech on the bonds of family and the importance of watching out for each other as humans. Then they both present the bride and groom with a ceremonial blade of sorts, and they both cut across their palms. They press their cut hands together, symbolizing how the two herds are joined by blood and oath, they kiss, and then there's a feast afterwards."
"Interesting. With us wolves and vampires, we exchange rings instead of cutting ourselves. But other than that, our weddings are pretty much the same."
