This choice: Run to your bedroom and change back  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

Wrong Room...

    by: JakeTheHusky Author IconMail Icon
You go with the first thing that comes to mind, which is to...

Run to your bedroom and lock the door

Quickly, you unlock the bathroom door and rush out to your bedroom. You shut the door behind you and lock it, hearing Luke open the front door. You made it just in time. You slump against the door for a moment, take a deep breathe, and head towards the book... shelf... You look at the blank wall puzzled. Wait, where's the bookshelf? You frown in confusion for a moment. Something feels...

The doorknob wriggles and you jump back in surprise. Thank goodness you had locked it, but why was-

"Hey, who locked my door?"

Your face turns pale as you realize what's happened. You turn and stare around the room... Luke's room. Not thinking carefully enough, you just ran to where your mind led you, which was supposed to be to your room. Since you were now Luke, that meant you ran to his room instead. Panicked, you look around for what to do. Should you hide? Or should you try to distract him? The doorknob continues to rattle for a few seconds before you hear Luke sigh in frustration. You decide that distracting would be the best way to get out of this, and texting him might work with the right excuse. You frantically try to come up with a good excuse to get him away from both bedrooms. You start to type a message...

Hey Luke, are you home? Can you let Rufus out for me, I'm busy at the moment

Hopefully that would work, you know he loves the dog as much as you do, and the back door is far enough away for you to escape into your actual room. While you wait and listen for his footsteps or a response, you look around his room. It feels much more familiar than it should, and you can tell where everything is and why it's there. Before, you and Luke had very different ways of keeping up with your rooms and didn't always understand each other. Now, you understood exactly why he did what, because it felt like you were the one who had done it yourself. It was a very strange feeling, knowing you're one person but feeling like another

Your phone vibrates and you look down to see he's texted you back saying...

Sure. By any chance did you lock my door? I'm not sure I remember where the key is, do you?

You sigh quietly in relief as you hear his footsteps fading and hear him call Rufus to the back. Quickly and quietly, you unlock the door and close it behind you, sneaking into your actual room and locking that door instead. You turn and look around the room, finding it strangely foreign. Even though this is your own bedroom, it feels just a little strange. You shake your head and focus on what to do next. You reply to your brother's text...

I did not. Idk where the key is either, maybe ask Mom

You sigh in relief once again in hopes he didn't see you, as you didn't hear any kind of reaction. Quietly, you open the bookshelf and run down the stairs to the terminal, seeing "Luke" still typed into the text field. You backspace it and type "Marcus" instead, and hit the red button again. You run over to the pod and close the door behind you, preparing for the deafening ringing and blinding light. You close your eyes and cover your ears in anticipation. The timer runs out and you are struck with the mass of psychological sensory input. Before you can cry out it vanishes. Luckily you didn't pass out this time, and you felt much more... yourself

The pod door opens and you step outside and flex your arms for a moment, and recognize the feel of your own skin and bones back on your body. You rush back upstairs and close the bookshelf, hiding the staircase. Opening the door, you hear Luke walking back towards your rooms and you can't help but tense, hoping you really had changed back to yourself. He greets you like normal and goes back to his room, finding it unlocked this time

"Oh... was it just stuck? Weird..."

He went to his room and put his stuff away. You consider what to do, and decide to experiment more after dinner or tomorrow. You go back to your room and call Rufus in to sit with you on the bed. You hang out and scroll through social media for half an hour and then head your mom calling you and your brother down for dinner

You meet them down in the dining room and sit at your usual seat. Your mom brings out some spaghetti, a delicious dinner follows and not much was said between them. Luke and yourself can't wait for your dad to come home from his business trip. He comes back in a couple days, but it's been about a week since he left the house. You both stand and head to your respective rooms, and your mom bids you goodnight. After an hour of social media and playing games, you decide to head to bed

You lie there on your bed for a good hour, not able to fall asleep. You can't help but keep thinking about that machine and what you could do. You have to at least go see it again before you can possibly get any sleep. Quietly, you get up and head down into the room. Looking over the machine, you can't help but wonder about the possibilities... should you try it again tonight? Or wait till tomorrow? Maybe one little adventure wouldn't be so bad...

Eventually you decide to...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Go back to bed, you'll have plenty of time tomorrow

*Noteb*
2. Try something new...

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
