Marcus Miles sighed in relief as the last bell finally rung throughout the school. The weekend was here at last, and it was a long one too. He had an entire week of no school for Spring Break. And boy was he grateful for it. As his classes were nearing the end of the year, they grew less and less interesting, while also hastening in pace more and more to meet the deadline
He walked outside to his car, and drove himself home. Parking his car, he went inside to his bedroom and put away his backpack since he wouldn't need it for a whole week
Sitting on the edge of his bed, he glanced over at his bookshelf. Whenever he was alone and had the time, he loved to spend hours reading his various books on its shelves. He noticed one was upside-down and pulled it out to reorient it. As he went to place the book back, however, he noticed a small paper covered in dust behind all the books. Curious, he retrieved the paper and placed the book back on the shelf. He turned it over in his hand and found that it was a note addressed to himself without any signature. It read as follows:
"Marcus,
You are very lucky to receive a gift such as this. I give you no direction or restraint, my only suggestion is to use it wisely. Not everything is just for fun, yet nor is everything made to be practical. Finding the balance can be a challenge, but I'm sure you'll find it. Take good care of it, and it will do so in return"
