Chapter #6Comparing Information by: BeeJay Come midafternoon, the hunting party returned, toting some small feathered creatures. "Hector says they're Gallimimus," Maya said. "Hopefully, they make for good eating."
"I'd prefer if we had more vegan options," said the girl.
"I doubt the soybean has been cultivated yet in this world," Hector told her. "Watching the herbivores, I made some educated guesses about which of the plants are edible, so we can have some vegetables."
"I'm afraid you won't be vegan for much longer," Ty added. "Start with a small amount of meat, so you won't shock your system. At least you'll have something."
"Well," Mrs. Raye said, "let's see if we can figure out how to cook these things. Thanks for your contributions, everyone."

Well, our efforts were edible. And we cut the skins off, which some of our fellow passengers said they could make into leather, for later use. And Hector's plants weren't half bad. Our vegan cohort grudgingly accepted one mouthful of dino meat.
"So," Captain Tippett asked, "do we have any more information about this place?"
"It's not on Earth," Hector said. "I've seen Apatosaurus, Triceratops, and a Tyrannosaurus rex. They're not all from the same era, so their ancestors must have found their way here through other doorways. I'm cautiously optimistic that we might find a way back."
"I'll take it, Hector. Anyone else?"
"I did some surveying from up high," I said. "I don't think we're alone here."
"No shit, Sherlock," Big Sweaty said. "We're eating one of them."
"I don't think she means the dinosaurs," Captain Tippett told him.
"Thank you, Captain. I saw a plume of smoke, about five miles that way. I don't know who it was, or how long they've been here, but they're intelligent. Think we should try contacting them?"
"I wouldn't recommend it; they would have seen us coming in, and our celebration last night. If they wanted to be friendly, they had the chance to say hello.
"From now on, our hunting parties are smaller; I don't want to leave the cave unprotected, just in case they come calling, and they aren't friendly." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
