The tale of Naruto Uzumaki wasn't for the faint of heart. His was a story fraught pain and loss that eventually concluded with love and acceptance. He'd fulfilled his destiny and at long last achieved his lifelong dream of becoming the Hokage. However, he was still Naruto Uzumaki, and that meant trouble would always find him.
A brand-new virus strain was running rampant throughout the Elemental Nations, infecting countless people at an alarming rate. It was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before and practically defied the laws of both science and biology. Anyone afflicted whether they be a man or woman, young or old, would physically decrease in size.
No one knew exactly where the virus came from or how people got truly became infected, but what everyone did know is the name. It was quickly known around the world as the Shrinking Virus, and it seemed to attack at random. So many shinobi, samurai, and civilians were hit with it, including the seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.
Naruto Uzumaki was yet another victim of the disease and his condition left his wife and daughter stunned. Hinata Hyuga Uzumaki had simply woken up one morning to find her husband who was supposed to be sleeping next to her the size of a bug struggling between her... well, generous bosom. Though the couple left that last part out.
The first thing his wife did was rush her husband to the Leaf Village general hospital where their friend Sakura worked. She'd been just as shocked as Hinata when Naruto was brought in and very gently took him off his wife's hands to run some tests. He wasn't the only one afflicted either as a few shinobi and civilians had come through.
Since the virus was still new and not much was known about it aside from what it could do, there were no actual cures or treatments that could be administered to those infected. All they could be was looked after and monitored by someone they trust. For Naruto that was his wife, and he also trusted his daughter.
He trusted son as well, but he was currently out on a mission away from the village with the rest of his team. With the seventh Hokage out of commission for the time being a previous Kage would have to fill in for him. Naruto knew his former sensei Kakashi or Grandma Tsunade could hold down the fort until he got better.
Naruto tried to look at the positives after he was brought home. A silver lining to all of this would be that he could finally spend some more time with his family at home, even if Boruto was away. He knew his son would've loved to have some family time. He wouldn't say it out loud but he, Hinata and Himawari all knew.
Right now, though, he was seated on the kitchen table between Hinata and Himawari while the former filled the latter in on what was going on. This was a huge shock for everyone, and they were going to do their best to adjust and help Naruto in any way they could until someone found a cure to the virus that ailed him.
After Hinata finished her explanation and made sure Himawari really understood the scope of her father's situation, it was decided that they would all spend some family time together. Hinata suggested a board game while Himawari wanted to invite her mom and dad to a tea party in her room. In the end they decided they'd let the man of the house pick.
