Chapter #3

Weird Robo on a Nice Day

    by: Mr.Tones Author IconMail Icon
Like, seriously weird.

And I have had some weird ass people show up at my door I’ll tell ya. Take a look, it’s easier to believe if you read yourself. Just stick with it though, it doesn't start off that weird but trust me it gets there!

******

It was a pretty normal, boring day. Didn’t have any clients scheduled and no chores to do so I was just doing the one thing I love more than hacking, being a lazy shit. I won’t lie about it, I like laying around and relaxing, what’s wrong with that?!

Nothing I say!

Anyway, I was just spread along the couch and was super comfy, munching on some regen supreme pizza and watching some old anime in nothing but my panties and a baggy tee with Cheetah napping on my cute little pot belly, you know, just having an all around good day when some frantic knocking scared poor Cheetah which had in turn scared me.

"What the fuck?!"

I get that might have seemed like an overreaction at the time, but I'd like to see how YOU'D react if your cat suddenly scratched the shit out of your stomach and made you fall off the couch okay?!

The stupid knocking kept on, getting louder as I tried to pull myself up, pissed not only for being scratched up and having fallen over but also because I just knew my day of peace had been ruined.

"HELLO?! HELLO, IS THIS THE RESIDENCE OF MS. ZHANG?!"

"Give me a damned minute and I'll let you know!"

I wasn't worried about it being cops, like I said most of the time they didn't give a shit, and even then naturally I kept all my stuff so well encrypted that by the time even the best of the police Robos could crack it I'd be long gone.

Scrambling around I threw on whatever pants I hadn't bothered to pick up yet, some plain old jeans that barely fit anymore, and came over to the door. Clicking the red button to the side of it a small holo screen came up on the surface of the door, showing me who had come beating the shit of my door through the little camera on their side.

It was a robo, an upper middle class type from the looks of the articulated face and sim hair they were rocking. If you're made with them, more stylized or human looking faces are not cheap for robos. I turned on voice comms.

"What is it, what do ya want?"

"PLEASE MISS ZHANG-!"

"OW SHIT, comms are on you fucking cross wired idiot, you don't have to yell!"

"Oh, sorry sorry, it's just that this is an emergency, really bad! It's contained for now but I really need a good, off the books coder to help me!"

I wasn't unfamiliar with helping dumb robos that thought they could code (It's like being a doctor, just because you're human doesn't mean you know how to do a hip replacement right?) without any experience fix what they fucked up, so while annoyed I had smelled opportunity.

"I can probably help, but if you know enough to find me you should also kno-"

"Is 50'000 credits enough?"

I had nearly choked on air when they said it. Normally the most I could squeeze out of a robo was 20'000 if I was lucky, I'm no crime boss and in this poor ass city the average chump was exactly carrying around money bags. But without waiting he quickly flashed a credit card, not that kind, up to the screen for me to see that indeed on its little display was a full 50k.

50k wasn't about to make me rich or anything, on a good week I can make that from normal clients, but 50k in one day was a new record I was not about to lose! I took a moment to collect myself before I went on.

"Just barley, but yeah that's enough. What's to be the problem though, you could have 1'000'000 credits on that card and I still won't help code a bomb or whatever."

"N-no! Nothing like that, or at least nothing we have to worry about now…"

"Just spit it out already, what, did you hack your friend for a prank and delete his memories?"

That happens more often than you might think.

"Not that, but uh… how do I put this?"
