Before reaching a decision, Pete considered it wise to test the swapping power in the comfort of his own home. He wanted to avoid any potential awkward situations with the possible subjects.
With this thought in mind, he hurried back home and headed straight to his room, where his pet guinea pig, Charles, eagerly awaited him. Charles squeaked, or rather “wheeked,” at his presence, excited at the prospect of being fed.
Pete settled into his computer chair, contemplating the incredible turn of events. He had unexpectedly gained god-like power, but a sense of unease prevented him from embracing it fully. Whether it was guilt or fear, he couldn’t quite pinpoint his reservations.
Just then, his younger sister Ariel barged into his room.
“Pete! Mom says it’s time to come down and eat!” she shouted.
“Could you please knock next time?!” Pete snapped, irritated by his sister’s constant intrusion of his privacy.
“Whatever…” she muttered, closing the door behind her.
Overwhelmed, Pete felt an irresistible compulsion to use his newfound power, as if it had taken control of him.
