The Testing

    by: Unknown
Moments later, Dr. Browning entered.

“Hello.” He said in a calm but straightforward manner “I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that your exposure to the comet has caused you all to start shrinking.”

“Can you fix it?” I said almost instantly.

“We don’t know yet.” He replied. “But we do have several tests planned to see if we can isolate your shrinking; understand it more; and possibly halt, slow, or reverse it."

“I’m in,” Johnny said

“Me, too,” Kaitlyn said

“If it stops me from shrinking into oblivion, I’m in,” Sara says

“Let’s go,” Breanna agreed

They all looked at me. I wasn’t on the fence; I was just trying to cope with everything. “Let’s do this,” I said.

Dr. Browning smiled. “Perfect; you kids come with me”

Before I knew it, I was pulled behind a curtain by two male and two female nurses. Without warning, they removed my hospital gown, leaving me in my birthday suit.

I felt rulers and tape measures rubbing against my skin. My hair was tied into a ponytail by a Hispanic nurse that was almost as tall as me.

Next thing I knew, I was poked for a blood sample. Then I was poked by another needle in my ass. “Ow. You could warn a girl.”

“Sorry” the male nurse said.

Hours went by of hot and cold showers, shots given to every part of my body.

Finally Dr. Colombo entered. Everything was so chaotic that I didn’t notice I had shrunk to 4 feet exactly.

“Here” she said, holding out a hospital gown. “Put this on. We’ve got good news”

I went back into the conference room to meet my friends. Everyone was clearly shaken from all of the tests. We were all also four feet tall apiece.

“Thank you all for your patience during our tests.” Dr. Browning said. “We have noticed that the comet has attached itself to each of you at the biological level. The green you see on these charts is the amount of comet you have in you. And as the comet energy disperses from your body, you shrink. But there is good news. Running our tests, we calculate that, based on the frequency of your shrinking, and based on the slowing agent we were able to create out of our antibiotics, you should stop shrinking in two weeks.”

“Two weeks?” I said. ”What if we disappear by then?!”

“No, no, Staci. We’ve done the math. You won’t disappear. But at the rate we’ve calculated along with the slow down process, when this is over,… ”

I could tell he had a hard time saying it.

“Doctor? How small are we going to end up?” I asked.

Dr. Browning sighed, looked at us, and, very straightforwardly, said. “By our calculations, when this process ends and the comet is completely out of your systems, you’ll all be around six inches tall."

In that moment reality hit us. We all started crying, except for Johnny. We couldn’t believe how much our lives were going to change. In two weeks, we would go from 4 feet to six inches.

We all cuddled and cried together, knowing we’d all have each other through this, like we always have.
