It was shortly after your eighteenth birthday. As the daughter of your people's ruler, it meant you would be married soon. Since you were one of the younger daughters, you have more say about who your future spouse is to be. Plus, you are the palaʻā of your father's eye, as the saying of your people goes. You tend to get your way on most things.
A few days after the celebration of your eighteenth birthday, scouts reported gigantic, pale beings coming ashore on the most distant part of your people's lands. These beings were easily six times the height of the largest warriors of your tribe.
Your people had legends of giants, but these were just stories to scare good behavior out of children. And in the legends, the giants looked and dressed like your people. The giants who arrived wore clothing such as you had never seen.
The giants were obviously excited when they saw your scouts, but they kept their distance and soon left.
A few days later, large birds, easily two or three times as large as the largest warrior, began circling high above your main village. The birds were like none you had ever seen. They were square shaped and had a wing at every corner. The wings did not flap but spun faster than the eye could follow.
The birds did not attack but seemed content to circle high above the village. After a few days, the giant birds disappeared.
Then the device known as 'the tablet' arrived, and life changed forever.
The tablet let an image of one of the giants converse with your people, without the giant himself having to be there. Soon the giants were learning the language of the people, and the people began learning the language of the giants, which the giants called 'Ing-lish.'
