Chapter #1

Thy Name is Damien

    by: DrkLotus Author IconMail Icon
Darkness. That is all you see, darkness. Soon, a glimmer of light breaks through and almost becomes blinding. Your eyes peek open at the haze in front of you, waiting for your vision to clear. Soon, you see the light from the sun, sneaking through your window. You throw off your Freddy Krueger comforter and stretch your arms to the sky, giving out the biggest yawn.

"Time to start another day," you think to yourself. You sit up on the edge of your bed, slide your grey slippers on your feet, grab a change of clothes and a towel, and head out of your room to the bathroom. Locking the door behind you, you stare at yourself in the mirror, turn on the sink, and splash some cold water on your face, instantly reviving you.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! You hear pounding on the door beside you.

"Oh come on, Damien," you hear a voice call out. "I really need to use the bathroom!"

"Well you should have gotten up earlier, Tabby," you call out to her.

You knew your sister hated that name. In fact, you had a whole slew of names you would call her, but you would never call her Tabitha.

"Errr," Tabitha says.

"Oh my god, Tabitha," you hear another voice say. "Why don't you just go downstairs and use the bathroom down there."

"Mom," Tabitha whined. "He does this every time and I always have to rush around so that I don't miss school."

"And yet you get there on time every day," their mother said, finishing Tabitha's sentence for her.

You smile to yourself, getting undressed and into the shower. You turn the nozzle on the faucet and expect the water to come out of the tub, but instead, you are blasted with ice-cold water coming out of the shower head.

"What the hell," you say, trying to escape the arctic blast. If you had claws, you could probably climb the side of the wall in the shower and hang from the ceiling.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you that I "accidentally" turn off the shower and didn't set it back to the sink." Tabitha giggled.

"That little snot," you think. "Don't think I don't have something planned for you."

After finally composing yourself, you set the nozzle in the shower to medium hot. After about 15 minutes in the shower, you dry yourself off and change into a pair of jeans, your Metallica t-shirt, and a pair of black and blue skater shoes that you wear to school.

"Did you enjoy your shower, bro," Tabitha asks. "Think of it as payback for putting hot peppers in my sandwich!"

"Next time you should watch what you eat," you retort.

You give Tabitha a small shove as she goes to the bathroom. Returning to your room, you slide open your closet doors and grab your bookbag. It's red and tattered with some stickers that you have collected over the years. Mainly stickers from Halloween. You sling it over your shoulder, walking back out of your room again.

"Come on, Tabby," you tell her. "I'm already dressed and ready to go."

"I'LL BE OUT SOON," Tabitha yells back at you.

You head down the stairs to the kitchen, pondering how you plan to trick Tabby today. You open the fridge and grab a ketchup packet out of the door. Cutting a small slit in the top with a pair of scissors, you place the packet in your palm with the slit facing out.

Soon, Tabitha comes down the stairs, wearing a teal-colored short-sleeved shirt with Funshine Bear on the front of it, and a denim skirt with a pair of black, footless tights, and a pair of black ballet flats on her feet.

You meet Tabitha halfway from the kitchen to the steps.

"Look, I am sorry about the peppers in your sandwich," you fib. "Can we call a truce?"

"Truce," Tabitha says as you slam your hand into hers, expelling the ketchup all over her shirt.

"You are the worst," she says to you, stomping up the stairs.

Your mom comes down in a business suit and a pair of black pumps.

"Honestly, Damien, that was too far," she scolds you. "I am on a time crunch and now thanks to you, your sister has to change her shirt."

After another five minutes, Tabitha walks back down the stairs, this time wearing a purple shirt with a smiling pig on it.

"This was the last short-sleeved shirt I had left," Tabitha complained. "Thanks a lot, Damien."

"Happy to be of service," you joked, bowing to her.

"Alright, knock it off you two," your mother warns. "We need to get moving now or I am going to be late for my meeting."

Your mother pushes the two of you out the door and into the van, rushing to get out of the driveway.

A couple of streets down the road, the van comes to a stop in front of your school.

"Okay," your mother tells you. "You two have a great day. Tabitha, pay attention in your classes and Damien behave yourself. If your principal calls me again, you will be in serious trouble."

"Okay, mom," you tell her rolling your eyes. With one last wave, you see the van pull away, your mother heading to her job.

You take a deep breath, and start heading for you school.

(What school did you go to?)
