I hear a knock at the door, "Hey, Ethan, are you in there?" It is my sister Abby. I slide the shrink ray into my pocket.
"Yes, what do you need?" I respond.
The door swings open. "Could I borrow your charger?" she asks, "Mine is on the fritz, and my phone is about to die."
"Sure," I say, reaching to my nightstand for my phone charger.
"Hey, what's that?" Abby points down at my pocket.
I look to see that the device is poking out. I hesitate for a minute not sure that I want to show Abby, but then I say, "It's a shrink ray." My sister raises her eyebrows skeptically. "No, really, I will show you." I point the device at the chair and fire. Her eyes widen in surprise as it dwindles in size. Abby walks over to the tiny chair and sets it in the palm of her hand. I tell her about finding the device and the tests I had done so far.
"This is so cool," Abby exclaims as I return the chair to normal size. "This is the kind of invention that you would expect in a book or movie, not in real life."
"I know, though I do feel a little bad for stealing it," I turn the device over in my hand absentmindedly.
"It's their fault for not taking better care of their equipment," she states bluntly. "Plus based on the number on this one they probably have plenty of prototypes. They probably won't even miss this one. I say we keep it."
"What do you propose we do with it?" I ask.
"I know you love Honey We Shrunk Ourselves as much as I do. We have to see if it will work on humans," Abby states excitedly.
"I'm not that is a good idea. It could be dangerous or even kill someone," I say.
"Oh come on, where is your sense of adventure." Before I can protest, Abby pulls the device out of my hand and...
