Suddenly the shrink ray whirs to life. It shocks me and I drop the device. A beam of light shoots out of the ray and hits Jake in the chest. I don't even have a second to process what just happened as my skin becomes tingly. The room around me appears to be getting bigger, but I know that I am actually shrinking.
A few seconds later I am standing waist deep in the lush carpet in Jake's room. His bean bag towers over me like a mountain. I look around for my friend, but I don't see him. He too, was shrunk of course. I hear a yell and look up to see Jake on the bean bag mountain. "I'll be right down," he calls. I watch as he half climbs, half slides down to me. "Dude, what happened? Why'd we both shrink?"
"I'm not sure," I reply. "I think the thing malfunctioned."
"Well whatever happened, you have to admit this is cool," Jake says gleefully. "I mean we are about an inch or so tall. We are seeing the world from a whole new perspective." He walks over to the can of coke he left sitting on the floor. It now looks more like a water tower.
"I have to agree, this is kind of awesome," I hesitate, "but I am a little concerned that we won't be able to operate the shrink ray to get us back to normal." I point to the massive shrink ray in the distance.
"Well that might be a problem," agrees Jake. "What do you think we should do?"
"Lets go check out the shrink ray and see if we can get it to work," I state. "If not, we will have to get help from a normal size person." Jake nods and we make our way to the device. At our size it takes much longer. After a couple of minutes walking, I pull myself up onto the shrink ray. It is still on the shrink seeting. I try and turn the dial, but it doesn't budge. Jake helps, but we still can't make it move. "Looks like we are going to need help," I proclaim.
"It is just my sister and I right now. Mom and dad are out of town for the week on an anniversary cruise." Jake explains. "I guess Rachel is the only normal sized one in the house."
I swallow, unsure whether or not we can trust Rachel to help. Unfortunately it seems we don't have much of a choice. "Okay, we better make our way to her. Let's just hope she doesn't accidentally step on us."
Together we hop off shrink ray and begin wading through the carpet. We walk past one of Jake's massive shoes which looks like it could crush a house. There is also a huge McDonald's bag which lays discarded next to the trash can. Lucky Rachel's room is right next to Jake's, so it doesn't take to terribly long to get there. Just as we are entering, a huge bare foot comes crashing down not far from us. I crane my neck to see the giant figure of Rachel coming into the room. Next she...
