It was the morning after I was released from the hospital and I was finding it hard to adapt to see yet not see. I could not see what was in front of me but I could see myself from other angles and even in other rooms. It made no sense and it was quickly becoming maddening. Everyone did what they could to help me get along including a white and red striped cane to sort of feel my way around and to aid me to get from room to room.
"How do you deal with this?" Wearily, I asked Ty. "I can't see but I can see..."
My voice trailed off as Ty looked at me for a moment before locking his jaws. "Follow me." Softly, he said.
I sighed. "Ty, I can't see."
"Yes you can." Insistent, Ty replied. "It is a sense that doesn't make sense."
He walked around me until he was standing behind me and I was shocked that I could see the back of myself and jumped as Ty placed a hand onto my shoulder.
"What...?!"
"You can see through other people's eyes just as I can hear through other people's ears." Softly, Ty explained. "You know that I had told everyone about it before; only they thought I was joking or losing my mind until I stopped talking about it. Now, you are making the same claims."
A wave of mixed emotions fell over me. I felt shocked, sad and a little guilty. I winced, remembering how I had teased Ty for saying he could actually hear but in a different way. "Sorry."
"I'm over it." Lightly, Ty said. "What is important is to teach you how to deal with this."
I shrugged. "Okay, where do I start?"
"Walk to your room." Calmly, Ty said. "You can see the way, right?"
I turned my eyes in the direction of my room and was surprised that I could see over my own shoulder. I was literally seeing through Ty's eyes. "I can see... through you."
"Go to your room." Calmly, Ty instructed.
Uncertain I walked into my bedroom with Ty following who closed the door. I winced, turning around to see myself from the outside which was weird enough. Only having my little brother alone with me in my bedroom was another level of awkward.
"I am not going to change clothes with a boy in my room, you pervert!" Frowning, I snapped.
Ty smiled slightly. "Get your mind out of the gutter, Chris." Bemused, he said. "Do you want my help or not?"
I blushed. "What do you want to do then?"
Ty picked up my Google glass shades and handed them to me. "Put them on."
Curious, I put them on and felt for the small on button. To my surprise, I could see through the camera of the Google glasses! I turned to my brother who showed me a digital note recorder he had in his pocket.
"I hear what this recorder hears through its microphone for as long as the batteries last but its not perfect."
"But... this makes no sense!" Confused, I said.
Ty shrugged. "As I said, it is a sense that doesn't make sense."
I sighed then turned back to the mirror. "I think it would be best if we kept this to ourselves." Nervous, I muttered.
