Chapter #5A Dragon by: Hole
The first thing Melona could perceive was the cold metal pressed against her face. Her eyelid fluttered open, finding her surrounding to be only slightly less dark than before, a large cavern with sunlight shining in through small crevices in the ceiling. Melona slowly sat up, feeling something peel off of her cheek and clatter to the floor. It was a golden coin. The girl looked around, and was almost instantly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of treasure surrounding her, seeing gems, swords, sculptures, jewelry and more all peppering a mountain of gold that took up the entire room. The beams of sunlight reflected off of the coins, casting the room in a golden glow.
How could this much gold end up in a place like this? Melona thought. Melona's parents may be rich, but this amount of gold would crash an entire kingdom's economy through inflation alone.
Her question would be answered by a terrifying roar from the cave. Melona froze, eyes darting, trying to parse the direction the sound came from, but as it bounced off the walls it became impossible to tell. Not that that would matter, because soon her eyes stopped at a large black shape slinking towards her, before suddenly launching into the air, massive wings spreading behind it. Instincts finally kicked in and Melona rushed to her feet, quickly scampering behind a large statue semi-buried in gold. She was too scared to look, but she could see it's shadow as it touched down nearby, sending a shower of coins flying, making Melona all the more grateful she had found cover.
She heard footsteps as the shadow drew closer, become more distinct, and Melona began to tremble, holding her breath. A light scraping sound was heard, and suddenly the statue was lifted away!
"You think you can hide from me???" A voice boomed, and Melona tried to get away, but the with the abscence of the statue the pile of coins shifted to fill in the hole left behind, Melona sliding backwards as the coins displaced, until she hit a wall. Next to her was a sudden explosion of stone as the statue was thrown in her direction, only barely missing, and the girl huddled, trying to protect her head from the marble shards flying through the air. She shivered in place, the footsteps drawing closer, and suddenly felt a hand around her collar, foisting her up, and putting her face-to-face with... A girl...?
She was certainly taller than most girls, as Melona's feet couldn't touch the ground from where she was held. Melona was unable to resist the urge to glance down, finding herself lifted around four feet in the air, meaning her captor would be somewhere around 9 ft tall. She had smooth tanned skin with patches of dark green scales here and there, particularly around her large breasts, covering where her nipples would be. The scales increased in density as they went down her torso, her wide hips and powerful legs completely covered. Two horns stuck out from her tousled black hair, her face partially obscured by her bangs, one piercing, ruby-red eye shining. Her large wings folded behind her, and a long, thick, spiked tail thumped angrily against the coins beneath it.
Oh no, Melona blushed, She's hot.
"You think you can violate the lair of a dragon? Especially mine!?" shouted the reptilian girl, snapping Melona from her gaze.
"N-no!" Melona said nervously, trying to raise her hands in a show of submissiveness, "I-I just woke up here, a-and I-I don't-"
"Speak plainly!" the dragon yelled, "Or are you too intimidated by the presence of the mighty Drakora to speak properly?" The was an air pf pride in that last sentence.
"N-no-! I-I mean- Yes! I-I just..." Melona made the mistake of looking at the clawed hand holding her aloft, leading her eyes down the woman's arm and it's firm musculature. "Oooh my gosh you're so beefy..." She muttered, blush deepening.
"What is this? Why are you changing colors???" Drakora asked, brows furrowed in a mixture of confusion and annoyance, "No amount of camouflage will save you now!" She bared her spiked teeth and Melona's heart skipped a beat.
"No I-I'm not-" Melona stuttered, "I-I mean, I do want out of here, b-but I can't- Human's can't do that. Normally." There was certainly a variety of spells that could help right now, but it's not like Melona would ever be able to cast them. "C-can you put me down? I promise I won't run away, Oh Mighty Dragon."
The dragon's chest puffed up at the praise, and she hummed approvingly, setting Melona on top of a large, broken column where she could sit and remain at eye level with the monster.
"Although I had no obligation to I have granted your request." Drakora said in a slightly less pissed-off tone, "Now answer me! What are you doing here? Are there others?"
"N-no! I'm alone!" Melona insisted, "And, um, I th-thank you for your magnanimity! You are truly a fair and generous individual!"
"Heh, indeed." Drakora grinned.
"And I truly don't know how I got here!" Melona insisted, "The last thing I remember was going to bed! Honest!"
"Hmm..." Drakora rubbed her chin thoughtfully, "So do I..."
She glanced around the room.
"And the sun does not shine so bright into my cave this time of year, nor do I typically hang around in my puny human form." She muttered, "I suppose we must be having an astral connection."
"A what...?"
"It happens with us monsters sometimes." She shrugs, "It is rare, but not unheard of. I've certainly never shared one with a human before, as far as I know."
"Um, wh-what does it mean...?"
"It means we are still dreaming," Drakore grunted, "And stuck with each other until one of us wakes up." She folded her arms under her ample bust, causing Melona's blush to flare back up.
"You're doing it again!" The dragoness exclaimed, "What is that!? Why do you keep doing it???"
"I-I- can't help it!" Melona exclaimed, before quieting and quickly adding "Oh Great Dragon" at the end, "It's a human thing, we do it when we're upset, or embarrassed, or um..."
"Yes?" Drakora motioned for her to continue.
"Um, w-we do it when... Um..." Melona shrunk into herself, pulling her hat down over her eyes, "When we're a-attracted to someone..."
"Speak up, I can't hear you." The dragon growled, annoyed.
"I-I said we do it when we think someoneisattractive..."
"Argh, enough!!!" Drakora cried, hurling a ball of fire past Melona's head and bursting against a nearby stalagmite. She plunged her clawed fingers into the column and brought her face forward, razor-shap teeth inches from the young witch's face. "Say it now before I-!"
"I think you're really attractive!" Melona cried desperately, throwing her arms in front of her defensively and squeezing her eyes shut, bracing for death.
A moment passed. Silence.
Cautiously, Melona cracked one of her eyes open. Dracora was still close, so close that Melona could feel her warm breath, but the dragon was frozen, eyes wide and eyebrows knotted together in confusion, as if Melona's words were a puzzle she had to solve before she could comprehend them.
"I..." Drakora muttered, words strangely steady and even. She let go of the column, taking a step back and scratching her head. She seemed to come to some decision and looked back at the girl, eyes shining with some strange determination.
"Say it again."
"What?" Melona blinked, now wondering if she herself was the one not fully understanding things.
"What you just said. Say it again." Drakora's voice was now firm, but not displaying a clear emotion.
"I..." Melona blushed, "I think you're really attractive..."
"Hmm..." Drakora frowned, "You are lying."
"I'm not! I swear I'm not!"
"Then elaborate," She said harshly, "What is it you find so attractive?"
"W-well, you're really big, and really powerful..." Melona started, "Your eyes- Well, eye- is like a sparkling ruby, and you're so tall and... And buff..."
Drakora looked over herself, as if noticing her body for the first time.
"I did not realize humans found that attractive..." She muttered, before snapping her gaze back to Melona. "You. Name."
"Me?" The witch tensed, "M-Melona. Pearsly."
"Melona... Hm..." The dragon looked at the girl appraisingly. "Are you a spellcaster of some sort? They always wear those same stupid hats."
"K-kind of? I'm studying to become a witch." Melona answered, trying to parse where Drakora was going with this.
"And yet you didn't try to defend yourself? That was stupid of you."
"Well, I can't! I don't-" Melona caught herself before she got too defensive. Drakora raised a brow, and so she changed the subject. "What's wrong with my hat...?"
"N-nothing!" Drakora replied quickly, "It is. Cute. On you."
"Oh!" Melona said, flattered, "Thank you..."
"Hmph. You're welcome." Drakora looked as though she was going to say more, when Melona's posture shifted, the girl feeling strangely groggy all of a sudden.
"That's strange..." Melona mumbled, "Why do I feel so... Dizzy...?"
"It seems you're waking up..." Drakora explained, "Well, in case you remember this, it was... Interesting. Getting to meet you."
"Thank you..." Melona said, her eyelids heavy, "It was... Nice meeting you too..." She yawned, and felt her balance on the column slipping. The last thing she felt was a sudden feeling of falling, interrupted by the clasping of strong arms... And then... Darkness...
---
Melona stirred, rubbing her eyes as she slowly came to. She sat up. She couldn't remember all of what she had dreamed, just a scattered collage of bright crackling flames, sparkling gold, and warm closeness. She was about to debate if she should go back to sleep, when… indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
