Zach, another lineman, razed Nick too, "We should call you 'garburator' instead of 'fridge'!"
Nick laughed at Zach's inanity as he grabbed coach's arm and put it into into his open mouth, pretending to gnaw on it...
"Hungry... hungry," Nick chortled, then let go.
"But, seriously, el-Habr, there are smaller guys than you putting up bigger weights. How many heavy days a week do you lift, compared to your light days?"
"You know the answer to that, coach, you set them up!"
"And I know that today is supposed to be a heavy day for you! But still only 350 pounds!"
"Hey, don't want to wrench a shoulder!" Nick riposted.
"You avoid that by proper technique and good spotters, not by avoiding real weights like a sissy!" Coach snapped back. "You're about to start your second set? What were you planning, 8 reps at 350?"
"Ten reps, actaully," Nick corrected.
"Ten reps? On a heavy day? You got some weird ideas about heavy days, kid!" Coach shot back. "I wanna see 4 reps at 425, or at least 5 reps at 400. Gotta lift your own weight there, el-Flabbr! C'mon Zach, help load up this monster with appropriately monster weights!"
While Nick lay on the bench, Coach and Zach quickly up the weights on the bar, then tightened them up. Then Coach tapped Nick's shoulder. "Now let's get your technique fixed up. Scooch along the bench there about two inches - that's enough. Now, get those elbows - yeah, like that. Slide the hands - that's better. See, you do know how to do this. Now, UP!"
And up and down the bar went, easily!
"Hey, that was great!" Nick exulted.
"Yeah, that looked easy. On a heavy day, you gotta go to exhaustion. So, another set, for at least three reps, at 450!"
With Coach and Zach spotting, the 450 went up and down too!
Shoulders and chest warm with exertion, Nick's next workout step is...
