Chapter #6Class Selection by: Hole "So... what do we do here?" Shelby asked.
"We have to make our characters," Ashley explained.
"Isn't that us in game though?"
"It's our characters, but we get to change stuff. First we need to start with our classes and starting stats."
There were three classes to choose from: Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard. Each class added two +2's and one -1 to an appropriate stat, which were: Strength, Agility, Durability, Wisdom, Mana, and Charisma, all of which were set to 1 by default. To Ashley, this seemed quite straightforward, even downright barebones for a character creator. To Shelby though...
"This is all so complicated. Like, what do I pick?"
"I'd say try fighter. Melee classes are usually the easiest to figure out."
"Okey." Shelby did so. Selecting the class add +2 to her strength and durability and -1 to her mana. "Now what?"
"Add your extra stat points. Since you're a fighter, I think you should min max."
"Min...max?"
"J-just but 2 into strength and durability. And 1 in charisma."
"Alright." Shelby did as she was told. "Now what?"
"Hold on. Let me pick my class." Ashley selected Wizard, to make up for the fighter's weaknesses at distance and probably heal Shelby. The glass gave her a +2 in mana and wisdom and a -1 in strength. She put her extra points into mana (+2) and wisdom (+3).
"Wow. You look hot in that wizard outfit."
"Huh?" Ashley looked at the screen, specifically the part she ignored: her own character. The 'Ashley' on screen was now wearing a very provocative wizard outfit. A large wizard hat on her head looked very traditional. Although her 'robe' was mostly just a few pieces of cloth tied around her body: one wrapping around her breasts like a tiny tube bra and a long loincloth that could only hide her sex and butt from the right angles. She didn't even get shoes. "You...you really think I look good like that?" Ashley said blushing.
Shelby realized what she said. "I-I mean in the game, you definitely look good. I think, anyway." She blushed and turned away nervously.
Ashley looked at the screen to see Shelby's character. In standard video game fashion, her armor was nothing more than a chain mail bikini, somehow hiding less than the wizard's outfit. Still though, Ashley had to admit. "Y-your character looks good too."
"Oh...Thanks." Secretly, both imagined what the other would look like in their character's outfits in real life.
"Um...hit the right trigger."
"The what?"
"It's this button." Ashley pointed it out. "It'll take us to the next part of character creation."
"Oh, okay."
Next was Backstory. They had to pick three things and check one box.
"Okay, childhood. This is what your character did in their early life."
"What does that mean?"
"Just pick the one with the best stats for your character. For your case, it'll be strength and durability. Or, if you want, pick the one that sounds most interesting to play as."
"Okey."
The two girls looked through the childhood options. Shelby picked the one that sounded the most interesting: Noble Fangirl: raised in a noble household, you had plenty of access to books about grand adventurers that you dreamt of aspiring to. +1 Str, +1 Wis, +1 Char. Ashley picked the one that min maxed her stats the most: Wizard apprentice: Grew up in a wizard tower under a strict master who ensured you spent all your time studying. +2 Man, +1 Wis.
"Okay, next we have adulthood."
"Is that different from childhood?"
"Not really. Just do the same thing as before."
Shelby misunderstood the command and picked the adulthood most similar to her childhood. Adventure Princess: Tired of living your pampered life, you abandoned your noble titles to pursue a life of adventure. +1 Str. +1 Char, +100 starting gold.
Ashley, once again, picked the one with the best stats. Gifted Mage: Through hard work and natural talent, you graduated top of your class at the magic academy. +2 Wis, +1 Man.
"Now we have to pick a trait?" Shelby asked.
"Hm. Seems like an extra thing to affect our stats. All of them will affect our stats and other stuff in the game, apparently."
"Like what?"
"Says here: encounters, dialogue, etc...Just pick one that sounds more fun, I think. There's probably a meta option, but I don't know anything about this game, so..."
"So, just pick whatever?" Or did she have to look for one called 'meta'?
"Just pick one you like."
"Okey." Shelby scrolled through the options and found one that interested her. Seducer: Increased success chance in seduction checks. Gets extra dialogue option to start seduction check with all NPCs. "Hey Ashley, what's an NPC?"
"Characters in the game that we don't play as. Enemies, shop owners, anyone we find in the game besides us."
"Oh." Seducing enemies and shop owners? That could be fun. She quietly picked it. The trait automatically added +2 to her charisma and +1 to her agility.
Ashley found her pick quite quickly. Dark Pact: Gain extra power in all spells. Gain access to unique spells. Suffers permanent mood penalty with all characters. Once she selected it, the trait added +3 to her mana, +1 to her wisdom, and -1 to her charisma.
Once they were done, their characters look like this:
Shelby
Fighter
Strength 5/20
Agility 2/20
Durability 3/20
Wisdom 2/20
Mana 0/20
Charisma 5/20
+100 gold
Ashley
Wizard
Strength 0/20
Agility 1/20
Durability 1/20
Wisdom 7/20
Mana 9/20
Charisma 0/20
"All that's left is... real life emulation?" Ashley read out the description by the checkbox at the bottom. "Selecting this option will make this character's stats emulate the player's personality in real life. I return, the player will emulate their character. WARNING: You cannot undo this option once confirmed"
"What does that mean?" Shelby asked.
"I don't know. I've never seen a game with an option like that before," Ashley said.
"You think it has something to do with why our characters look like us?"
"Hm. Maybe." To experiment, Ashly checked the box without confirming to see. "Oh. It just seems to affect our stats." Ashly's stats apparently increased by +2 wisdom, +1 strength, +1 agility, and +1 durability.
"Really? What else."
"Doesn't look like anything else. Try yours but don't confirm."
"Okeys." Once Shelby checked the box on her side, her character gained +4 charisma and +1 agility.
"Hm. Nothing different. I guess it's just free stats."
"Then what's up with that warning? What does it mean by 'the player will emulate the character'?"
"I don't know. Maybe it's for flavor?"
"Flavor?"
"Just to look cool."
"Hmm. I don't know. It kind of scares me. Do we have to pick it?"
Ashley and Shelby thought about whether they should try this suspicious option. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
