It hadn't been easy for Holly since her husband had died, but the mouse had to keep moving, keep working. Keep things together for her kids over the last six months. She had gone back to work, taking a job with Little Rodentia's Sanitation Department, working in the earliest hours of the morning and keeping the city clean, and getting home in time to take her kids to school, and today should of been no different.
She had hopped out of her garbage truck behind a dinner, the last dumpster she had to clear out before going back to the dump and heading home. But then she heard it...it sounded like...
A Baby Crying?
Holly's ear twitched as the barely audible sound of a crying infant rang out... Little early for some mother to be walking around with her kid.
...Wait.
No that...that can't be coming from where she think's its coming from...
She opened the lid of the dumpster and began digging through the top layer before eventually, beneath a burger wrapper, she found it. A baby human, swaddled tight and seemingly just abandoned in the garbage. Holly could feel her blood start to boil. Someone threw out a baby?! If she hadn't heard it and the dumpster had been dumped into the truck the kid would of...it was a miracle he hadn't already gotten...
She gently plucked the human infant out from the dumpster and took them in her hand. Nothing was going to happen to them if she could helping.
Someone crying
"W-what am I gonna do...I...he didn't...they're not gonna let me come back..."
The voice was quiet, and small, and not just because Holly was pretty sure it was a human. It sounded young...and really, really afraid if she was honest. Holly got down to her hands and knees and looked beneath the dumpster, seeing...
A girl who couldn't be more than 17, sobbing as she hugged a swaddled bundle to her chest. "Hey there...you uh, you alright?"
The girl kept crying. Hugging the bundle to her tighter. "I...I didn't mean for this to happen but I c-can't just get rid of them. T-they aren't going to let me come back..."
"...you wanna come out from under there and tell me about it, hun?"
