"Well, the long and short of it is that he spiked my drink with a love potion at a staff's night out on the town, just after I had gotten hired here."
"Wait, he did? That's awful!"
Ms. Tanaka nods and sighs sadly. "I know I should think that, but--" she looks up at you, tears at the edge of her eyes. "He said it wasn't suppose to be a love potion. It was supposed to be a potion that would make me not notice that he had paid my tab for me. He said he knew I wouldn't accept it, and that he wanted to welcome me to the faculty." She wipes her eyes. "He was always so nice."
"You believe him?"
"I probably shouldn't." Tanaka nods. "But I trust him, you know? He was always so good to me. Told me that he'd come up with a reversal potion to get me back to normal. I had told him that I didn't want that, that I wanted to be with him, but..." she shakes her head. "He said no."
You furrow your brow. Maybe it was an actual mistake on Dave's part? This whole situation doesn't sit right with you.
"What do you think we should do?" you ask.
"Dave's really gone," Ms. Tanaka whispers. "But he left you with the lab?"
"Yeah."
"Then I think he'd want me to help you out."
---------
You've returned to the lab, and night has fallen. You and Ms. Tanaka look around.
"It even smells like him," whispers Ms. Tanaka. "I wish he'd shown me this." She looks at book, flipping through it. "This must be his lab notebook. One of them, anyway. He kept such good notes."
