"Awe, can't make up your mind? Want to see what it would be like if we did everything? OK," the nurse said.
"What?" a confused Mark asked.
"Here hold this," the nurse gave Mark a stuffed rabbit. Mark didn't know what to think about it. "Just look at it for a second."
While Mark was distracted, from behind him, there was a loud sound. It penetrated his head. When he looked up, he couldn't recognize anything in the room. He saw the wall in front of it with its brightly painted animals and pictures and couldn't identify what any of them were. They all had friendly faces and were colorful, but because he didn't know what they were in some way they scared him.
It didn't matter what he looked at, he didn't know what it was. He was about to cry until he looked down and saw the stuffed bunny in his hands. It was the only thing he recognized. he knew it belonged to him. He felt immediately attached to it. As long as he had it, he felt safe. He cuddled the bunny.
At the same time, his bladder let loose. He didn't know he was supposed to hold it. The feeling in his pants wasn't unpleasant. The warmth felt good.
"It'll be alright, Markie," the nurse said in soothing tones.
Mark couldn't understand what the nurse said. But he did recognize his name. He felt comforted by the soft tones of the nurse. He looked up at her. He wished she could help him make sense of the world around him.
"Come let's get you fixed up," the nurse told Mark as she reached out with her hand.
Mark took her hand and let her lead him.
He didn't struggle as she undressed him and put him into a diaper.
The rest of the day was a blur to Mark. When he woke up later clutching his bunny, he was naked except for his diaper, but his mind had returned.
