Chapter #5

Morgan's Plan

    by: Kilbil Author IconMail Icon
Morgan spied with her little eye, something that she detested more than anything in the whole wide world.

That something just so happened to be a group of girl kaijus, their heads towering over most of the high rises as the eagerly gossiped among themselves. Glaring at them from a few blocks away, her head not-so-discretely peeking behind the corner of a long-abandoned brick-and-mortar paper store, the ginger-haired prep girl seethed at the looming towers of meat and bone, her crimson eyes fixed on their every move as they prattled on without a care in the world.

No scribe could hope to properly capture the level of concentrated malice that was contained in that small little girl. Every moment that the kaijus continued talking was a moment that her hatred grew, her spite cementing all the more as she watched them chatter on and on about whatever dumb, brutish things kaijus liked to talk about.

She hated them. She hated the way their mammothite feet took up every corner of the town square, crowding out the nearby parks; the way they strutted around their cities and towns like they owned them, leaving massive potholes in the roads that always took days to weeks to fill in again; the way they always seemed to hold so little regard for their surroundings no matter hold careful they postured themselves, carelessly uprooting lampposts and crushing any nearby cars that had the misfortune of happening to choose to park nearby!

She hated absolutely everything about kaijus, from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes, and she hated even more how nobody seemed to feel the same way she did. Why else would anyone decide to open an entire academy dedicated to them to "tide over relations between man and kaiju"? And to think that they then had the gall to invite her to attend as part of a special lottery that she had never even entered!

Ugh, just thinking about it almost made her want to hurl.

When she had first gotten that accursed letter, her first instinct had been to rip the blasphemous parchment to shreds and throw it down the nearest incinerator. However, as she though over it more, she eventually decided that would graciously accept their invitation after all. Anything that served to help her learn more about her enemies couldn't be scoffed at, regardless how she felt about the idea.

But if they thought that plopping someone like her among kaijus was going to get her to change her mind, they had another thing coming! She would never, ever, in a million years think about giving even the slightest respect to these monsters, let alone "tide over relations" between them! She still remembered with crystal clarity the day one of them had come by and tripped onto her mansion. Her entire estate, all of her belongings, her family heirlooms, her dolls, her clothes, everything had been destroyed, and all because one of them didn't bother to look where they were going!
And to top it all off, they never even apologized, simply staring at the ruins with a shrug before stomping off!

As far as Morgan was concerned, the idea of there ever being peace between humanity and kaijus was laughable. It was the kind of thing only delusional, unfettered idealists would even hope to entertain, and she knew just how dangerous an unfettered idealist could be. Still, so long as the world was still entertaining this pathetic fantasy, she might as well use it to her advantage and learn about their weaknesses. She would do whatever she had to do to prepare herself for the day that the kaijus would get bored of this whole affair and set things back to square one. And then, when the time came to strike, she would ensure that kaijus would never mess with her ever again!

This much she promised herself as she watched her future classmates eagerly chatter amongst themselves.

Meanwhile, the four kaiju girls were off in their own world, eagerly discussing the invitations they had just gotten. They were waving around the massive billboard-sized placards in each other's faces, barely reacting as they occasionally bumped against a stray building and took out a chunk of it in one blow.

They had every reason to be excited; after all, their invitations were from the illustrious 4-year-old institution known to all as the Great Kaiju Academy. In the short time since the academy was established, it had already accrued a peerless reputation as the perfect place to get an education for becoming an elite-tier kaiju.

Oh, and also it served as a bridge between humans and kaijus. There was also that, too.

The tallest and oldest among them, her golden-brown hair luminescent under the setting rays of the afternoon sun, was especially intense. She posed in triumph as she showcased to all her friends the gold-embossed lettering on her massive billboard, the words "Invitation of Honor" prominently displayed. As she did so, her hips unconsciously bashing themselves against a nearby skyscraper, bringing it down in an explosion of dust and debris.

"To think, in just one day we'll be standing in the hallowed arches of the Great Kaiju Academy!" she exclaimed, eyes beaming as she proudly displayed her invitation.

"Yeah!" the shortest replied, her blazing crimson hair perfectly framing her youthful spunk. "The best part is that we don't even have to pay!"

"We're kaiju. We don't pay for anything," replied the second tallest, think ropes of black hair splayed around her body like an impenetrable spider's den.

"Oh. Well, it's still nice, y'know, to not have to do that!"

Everyone in the group could agree to that, as that was enough to elicit a high-pitched shriek of "YEAH!" from all involved parties. Many a window for miles around lost their luster that day, the casualties numbering in the thousands as their remains rained down on the streets in a hailstorm of broken glass shards. Morgan could attest to these terrible losses, as she scrambled to dodge the rain of glass that was smoking out every last inch of her hiding place.

"I wonder what 'Invitation of Honor' means, though..." the third-tallest wondered. Other than her height, she was completely unremarkable in every way.

"Maybe it's the academy saying that you're, like, exceptionally good at kaiju stuff, and that's why they really want you!"

"Not much point in going to an academy if that's the case..."

"Regardless!" The eldest voice rang out loud and clear among the group, commanding their eyes as she looked down upon their expectant faces. "What these invitations mean is that we're going to have the best of the best mentoring us! I can't think of anyone who'd possibly object to that!"

~~~
Eventually, as the dusk's afternoon light settled down over the horizon, the kaijus finally decided to move on from their rendez-vous, marching through few buildings that remained standing around them and heading off towards parts unknown. Once more, the citizens were left to do an after-the-fact assessment of the damages, and thus far, just about everyone in town could agree that the town square had never looked so clean before!
That was mainly because there wasn't a town square anymore, the entire area having long been decimated by the kaiju girls' presence. Really, though, it was an irrelevant detail in the grand scheme of things. Unlike most, they couldn't bring themselves to blame the kaijus for the destruction that they caused - it was simply in their nature to do so. Frankly, the fact that cities hadn't already replaced all of their glass with plastic was a testament to how stubborn federal and corporate bureaucracy alike was in getting anything that resembled actual work done for the good of the public. Someone could get hurt!
Morgan disagreed quite aggressively, her hair a disheveled mess from having to run for her life from being cut into salami by falling glass shards. Nonetheless, as a proper lady, she knew better than to act out of hand, so she simply contented herself with watching on as the kaijus stomped away into the distance, leaving gaping sinkholes on the streets, each and every craterous footprint they made now impressed on the concrete until the town managed to get to them paved over again (at least, assuming that they simply didn't bother and left the streets a permanent attraction to any kaiju enthusiasts that might so happen to come by). In her personal opinion, she was the perfect model of calm and tranquility, her right eye twitching only a teensy little bit. Really.
Still, if this was what she had to expect once she was actually at the Academy, learning their weaknesses was going to be more difficult that she expected...
