Chapter #5

Mimic Potion - It starts

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Jenn looked a little further into the book as Josh was in the bathroom. When something caught her eye. It wasn't overtly noticeable, but she could see it. A small string seemed to be sticking out from the spine. Bringing her hands over to it, she started to pull on it. As she pulled, Jenn expected resistance, but none seemed to come until she pulled the string all the way to reveal a small compartment hidden in the spine of the book. 'What in the hell?' She thought to herself as she took a closer look at the spine. Most of her life, she respected books and what they had to offer her. Knowledge. Escape to another world. Solitude. These are the things she craved in exchange for her respect. It took everything that she had to pull that string and destroy the book. Taking in a deep breath, Jenn looked at the hidden compartment that she uncovered. As she opened the flap, two small vials of a chartreuse colored liquid clattered to the table. Letting out her breath, she picked one of them up and held it up to the light. As she did, the light seemed to filter through the liquid to make it seem as if it was glowing, almost as if it was radioactive in some way. Turning the vial in her hand, she found a small label with 2 words written on the side. 'Mimic Potion' was written in a shaky way. "Mimic potion." Jenn said a loud as she looked back through the book. As if it had heard her request, the book seemed to understand what she was looking for and the pages started to fly about until it stopped.

Towards the middle of the book, the pages stopped as if wanting her to read it. 'Mimic Potion: Allows the user to take the form of what they picture. Do not drink more than one vial, as your form will become unstable. To reverse effects a true form draft must be ingested (see page 159).' She thought to herself as she put the book down to get a better look at the vials in her hands.

"What do you have there?" Josh asked wiping his hands on his shirt and nearly causing Jenn to shriek with fright. Seeing that he genuinely spooked her, he lovingly gave her a quick peck on the top of the head. "Sorry, didn't mean to spook you." Josh told her as he took a seat across from her, looking at her hands to see the 2 small vials resting. "Whats that?" He asked gesturing down at the contents of the hidden compartment.

Putting them down, she closed the book and showed Josh the spine. "There was a loose thread that I pulled and these were hidden in a secret compartment." She looked at the spine and noticed that it seemed to be repaired, almost as if it wasn't broken open before. Jenn turned the book around to see if she could find the loose thread again, but didn't seem to find any. Josh rested his hand on hers, in an attempt to sooth her. She looked up at him with a wild, unsure gaze. "I swear, it was there."

Knowing not to press her too much, Josh nodded his head. "Not to worry." He told her with a mischievous smile that he was known for having before he had an idea that would either get him in trouble or have his sisters yelling at him. "So what does that do?" He asked looking down at the vials. "It kinda looks like poison from old cartoons."

Jenn held up one of the vials to get a better look at it. "It kinda does, but from what I read, it's called a Mimic Potion and allows the user to turn into a form that they imagine. So if you wanted to try it out and become younger, it would make you a younger version of you."

Taking a moment to process the information, Josh sat back in his chair. "So what if drank it and thought of you, I would turn into you?" He used his hands to act as if he was running his hands down her body. Blushing, Jenn nodded. "And to turn back, I drink the other one?"

She shook her head. "No, from what I read if you drink both, your form will become unstable. I really don't know what that means, but they have the potion that will reverse it." She looked at him with a sly smile. "So... Do you want to try it?" She asked holding up one of the vials in a teasing manner. As she was doing this, Jenn's phone going off with the ring tone of her favorite anime 'Magical Girls unite' playing.

Without missing a beat, Jenn grabbed her phone. "Oh, its Em." She replied accepting the phone call. "Hey Em, whats up?" She spoke into the phone. "Oh, that's horrible... Uh huh... Sure, if thats what you want... Actually, Josh and I found something interesting that we were wanting to try out... Sure, we will make our way over there. Bye."

"What did Emily want?" Josh asked as they made their way over to the car.

Putting the phone back into her bag, Jenn sighed. "It looks like she and Will had another fight which resulted in them breaking up. So she was wondering I wanted to come over so that she could talk." She continued. "Just don't bring up Will when we go over there, she seems a little broken up about it right now."

Looking at the clock display on his dash board, Josh nodded. "We can head over there if you want, I will send my Mom a text to let her know whats going on when we get there."
