Taking a drink from his latte, Josh thought about it for several minutes. "Actually, I think we should wait and try it out later." He ultimately decided. Holding out his hand trying to get the remote back from his girlfriend, but she held it close to her chest. Letting out a small sigh, Josh looked at Jenn. "What are you doing? I thought we decided that I was going to take it home first." He asked her with a look of concern on his face.
With a smile on her face, Jenn started to bring the remote away from her chest, but brought it down into her lap. "I know, but I don't want to swap our heights back yet. I've been short for most of my life and want to see what its like to be taller for a bit." She confessed to him while starting to bring it back up to the table. "If you promise that you won't swap back our heights just yet, I will let you take it home with you."
Thinking about it for a moment, Josh ultimately nodded his head. "Fine." He decided as he brought his hand up above the table with his pinky finger extended. Jenn brought her hand above the table with her pinky extended as well. The pinky swear was one of their silly traditions when the promised to do something. Jenn introduced it to him, but Josh thought it was kind of silly until after a couple months and it seemed like a habit. A habitual action that he brought and introduced to his family too. It seemed to make Dr. Wright's kids happy when they learned of it.
Glad about what she was able to work out with her boyfriend, Jenn slid the remote across the table to him. "There you go." She smiled as she watched Josh slide the remote into his backpack. The both heard Jenn's phone chime. Looking at her watch, she saw that her Mom had sent her a message. "Looks like its time for us to leave." She announced as she showed him her wrist.
"Fine." Josh replied as he started to get up and marveled at how much taller Jenn was now compared to him. 'This thing is really amazing.' He thought to himself while they walked over to his car that was parked across the street in a shopping center that was mostly filled with vacant shops these days. Just a month ago, the biggest space was filled with a Spirit Halloween store and it seemed to put this little shopping center on life support, if only for a little time.
The car ride back home didn't seem to last very long, but Josh scowled when he had to move his seat forward so that he could reach the pedals. "We're here." He announced as he pulled into their driveway.
Jenn gave her boyfriend a quick kiss as she started to open up the door. "I will call you later on tonight." She smiled as she waved goodbye. Josh returned the goodbye while he started to pull out of the drive way.
Luckily he lived only a couple of streets away and as he pulled in Josh could see his Mom's car. Taking a deep breath as he mustered up the courage to go inside. He knew that she wouldn't see any difference, but as he found out many times in the past, she always found out about everything. "Lets do this." He said to himself trying to psych himself up. Opening up the door, Josh grabbed his backpack and made his way inside. Walking inside, the house seemed to be relatively more quiet that it usually did. "I'm home!" He called out to the seemingly empty house.
Hearing some rustling in the kitchen, he started to make his way there. "Hey there Josh." A young voice called out from behind him. Turning around, he saw Lily Wright standing in the doorway. Wearing a blue skirt with a pair of tights underneath to keep her legs warm and a long sleeve shirt with a cartoon character on it, Lily looked cute.
"Oh hey Lily." He replied looking around for her more active brother. "So where's your dad and James at?"
"Daddy took him and Bri over to a football game. I didn't want to go so your Mom offered to watch me until they get back." She informed him as she looked bored.
Feeling a little sorry for the kid, Josh smiled as he motioned up to his room. "How about we go up to my room and we can play a couple games or you can use my colored pencils." He suggested to her and watched face light up. Seeing that he was now taller than her at least, he smiled a little.
"Really?" She asked with a gleam in her eye. "Daddy only lets me use crayons. He says that I'm not grown up enough to use anything else." She started to hum one of her favorite songs as she followed him up stairs to his room. Walking into his room, she could see all the posters from several games on the walls, along with what looked like some dolls on some shelves. "Why do you have dolls?" She asked pointing over to the action figures.
Feeling a little self-conscious about the anime figures that he ordered last summer. "They're not dolls, they're figurines." He protested as he started boot up his Playstation. "So do you want to play or did you want to draw something?" He asked as he hopped up onto his bed and started to get comfortable.
"No, can I get your colored pencils?" She asked while swished her hips back and forth causing her skirt to sway, but Josh couldn't help but think it looked kind of cute.
He couldn't help but grin as he gestured to his backpack. "Sure, they're in there." Lily clapped her hands in a giddy manner and made her way over to the backpack. Josh turned his attention back over to the television and started to look through the games to see which one he felt like playing.
"Ooo... Whats this?" She asked holding up the remote that he had found earlier that day.
With his eyes as big as saucers, Josh quickly put down his game remote and tried his best to get Lily's attention. "Let me see it." Josh asked, trying to make it sound like it wasn't anything major.
With a sly smile on her face much like Courtney when she was younger, Lily acted like she was going to shot him with is, but he held up his hands, in a bad attempt to block it. "If you want this back, you need to tell me what it is." She declared.
Groaning, Josh didn't think he had a chance of getting out of this, but if she knew the truth then she would probably think it was a fake too. "Its a remote that swap things between people." He announced and watched as she dropped the remote down to her side.
The sly smile soon gave way to a look of wonderment. "Ooo... like magic?" Reluctantly Josh nodded his head. "Can I try it out?"
Thinking that it would probably relatively harmless, Josh ultimately gave way and nodded his head. "Let me see if for a moment and I will show you how it works." Smiling like a kid who just got her way, well this seemed to be the case, Lily was just about to give it to him,but stopped suddenly. "No I want to do it." She brought the remote back to her chest, protecting it from his grasp.
Josh couldn't help but sigh, but quickly thought of something. "Actually, let me show you something and you can do a swap." He assured her. Almost reluctantly, Lily gave him the remote. Thinking about what he wanted to copy, he pressed the button and aimed it over at her and pressed the past button. Her eyes seemed to grow as the information of how to use the remote was inputted into her head. "Do you know how to use it now?" He asked her as he gave her back the remote, but watched as she nodded her head. "But I want the remote and what we swap back before you go home." He announced and Lily nodded her head.
A mischievous look came across her face as she aimed the remote over at him.
