Chapter #3

The eyes have it

Josh wasn't surprised to see that he was back in the cafe once again, however, he was surprised to feel the idol not in his hand. "Oh, Thanks for the tip you two, I really appreciate it. Just have a seat and I will bring it right out to you when its ready." Zoe said with a smile. She always liked it when they came in, mostly because they were great tippers and cleaned up after themselves when they got done.

"Poor girl. She's having a rough night tonight." Jen said while making their way through the cafe to find a seat around their favorite area next to the games. Seeing that the table that they had their first date at was empty, they quickly made their way over. She sat down and put the empty box that she was holding onto the table and looked over at her boyfriend's hand to see that it was empty. "Where did that weird idol go?" She started to look concerned.

Looking down at his hand and was wondering if he should tell her what really happened. "Uh..." He started but was quickly interrupted.

Letting out an exasperated sigh. "Did you leave it back at the register?" She asked as she started to get up to make her way over to check, but was stopped by Josh's hand grabbing hers. Noticing a small amount of blood on one of his fingers, Jenn looked back at him. "Did it cut you? You might need to go get a tetanus shot." She sighed knowing that she can't bring her boyfriend anywhere.

Deciding to see if he needed to go commit himself into a hospital psych ward, Josh spoke up after looking at his hand seeing that the idol was indeed gone. "Well we can go get that later on, but I think I need to tell you something first." He told her of how he was transported into a dark dank cave, about the odd old man with the various parts, about the fire that seemed to flicker with heart beat of the old man, and finally about the Goddess made of smoke matching the idol giving him a gift. "So that's why I don't have it anymore, so you can get off my ass about losing it." He lightly nudged her with his foot and winked

Not really believing what he was telling her, Jenn just waved her hands dismissing it. "If you don't want to admit that you lost it, all you have to do is say so." She giggled at seeing her boyfriend turn a little red. "You don't seriously believe that really happened do you?" She leaned over the table to put her hand against his forehead to check for a temperature.

Pushing away her hand checking his head, Josh seemed to be defensive about what he just told her now. "I'm being serious. How about we try it out." He suggested but was met with Jenn nearly laughing at him. "What do we have to lose, hmm? I mean, if I don't have this gift, fine. But think about it if I do have it." He was about to start telling her some of the things that he was thinking about, but saw that the room was slightly full with college students and other people getting ready for the upcoming week.

Always up to proving her boyfriend wrong, Jenn sat back with a smug look on her face. "Fine, you want to live in this delusion then lets see what you can do, hmm?" She leaned in a little closer with her elbows on the table waiting. "So how about we trade eyesight." She took of her glasses for a moment to look at them. "It would be great to walk around without these things falling off of my nose so much." Putting them on the table, she started to move them over to him.

Looking at her and then at the glasses, Josh knew that he didn't want to be proven wrong and hoped that it wasn't a hallucination. "Fine I accept." The both of them closed their eyes as a bright flash came into their field of vision. When Jenn's vision finally came back to her, she was astonished that she could see things in the distance.

For the past several years, she needed them to pay attention in class and even more now. Looking over at Josh, she could see that he was squinting a little when he looked into the distance. "I can't believe it worked." She chuckled as she picked up her light purple glasses and slid them onto his face. Shocked, Josh looked around to see that he could now see again, even if he had to wear such feminine looking glasses.

Looking around Josh could still see everything just fine, but when the glasses fell to the tip of his nose, then everything at a distance would become blurry. "Here are your drinks guys." Zoe said to the two of them. Josh tried to take off his glasses in order to hide the fact that he was wearing Jenn's. Zoe turned to him. "Why did you take them off?" She asked him.

Sheepishly, Josh put them back on his face. "Don't you think its weird for me to wear these?" He asked taking the drink from her hand.

"Not really." She quickly answered. "You've always worn those ever since you guys started coming in here last year. Both Jenn and Josh's jaws dropped at hearing this. Just a few moments earlier, he had started wearing these glasses, but apparently reality changes when he swaps something. "Thanks again you two for the tip." She waved them good bye and went back towards the front.

Waiting for her to be out of earshot, Jenn looked back over to him. "Wow, I can't believe she didn't notice." Jenn smiled.

Josh nodded his head. "I know, but Jenn can we swap them back, please?" He wondered as he started to take off her glasses.
