Taking a drink from his latte, Josh thought about it for several minutes. "Actually, I think we should wait and try it out later." He ultimately decided. Holding out his hand trying to get the remote back from his girlfriend, but she held it close to her chest. Letting out a small sigh, Josh looked at Jenn. "What are you doing? I thought we decided that I was going to take it home first." He asked her with a look of concern on his face.
With a smile on her face, Jenn started to bring the remote away from her chest, but brought it down into her lap. "I know, but I don't want to swap our heights back yet. I've been short for most of my life and want to see what its like to be taller for a bit." She confessed to him while starting to bring it back up to the table. "If you promise that you won't swap back our heights just yet, I will let you take it home with you."
Thinking about it for a moment, Josh ultimately nodded his head. "Fine." He decided as he brought his hand up above the table with his pinky finger extended. Jenn brought her hand above the table with her pinky extended as well. The pinky swear was one of their silly traditions when the promised to do something. Jenn introduced it to him, but Josh thought it was kind of silly until after a couple months and it seemed like a habit. A habitual action that he brought and introduced to his family too. It seemed to make Dr. Wright's kids happy when they learned of it.
Glad about what she was able to work out with her boyfriend, Jenn slid the remote across the table to him. "There you go." She smiled as she watched Josh slide the remote into his backpack. The both heard Jenn's phone chime. Looking at her watch, she saw that her Mom had sent her a message. "Looks like its time for us to leave." She announced as she showed him her wrist.
"Fine." Josh replied as he started to get up and marveled at how much taller Jenn was now compared to him. 'This thing is really amazing.' He thought to himself while they walked over to his car that was parked across the street in a shopping center that was mostly filled with vacant shops these days. Just a month ago, the biggest space was filled with a Spirit Halloween store and it seemed to put this little shopping center on life support, if only for a little time.
The car ride back home didn't seem to last very long, but Josh scowled when he had to move his seat forward so that he could reach the pedals. "We're here." He announced as he pulled into their driveway.
Jenn gave her boyfriend a quick kiss as she started to open up the door. "I will call you later on tonight." She smiled as she waved goodbye. Josh returned the goodbye while he started to pull out of the drive way.
Luckily he lived only a couple of streets away and as he pulled in Josh could see his Mom's car. Taking a deep breath as he mustered up the courage to go inside. He knew that she wouldn't see any difference, but as he found out many times in the past, she always found out about everything. "Lets do this." He said to himself trying to psych himself up. Opening up the door, Josh grabbed his backpack and made his way inside. Walking inside, the house seemed to be relatively more quiet that it usually did. "I'm home!" He called out to the seemingly empty house.
As he started to walk into the kitchen, Courtney started to come out at the same. With her wireless headphones on and her eyes glued to her phone, Courtney wasn't aware of what was going on around her. "Ow!" Courtney exclaimed, falling to the floor with her hand clutched to her phone. "Watch where you're going." Josh looked over at her and noticed that her usual well put together appearance seemed to be thrown out the door as soon as she got home. Dressed in a pink plaid flannel pajama pants and a simple white shirt, Courtney seemed to be ready for the long weekend. Looking around, she spotted her phone laying right next to her.
"Sorry Court." He replied as he offered his hand to help her up. Exasperated, Courtney quickly picked up her phone and accepted his hand and was soon on her feet once again. A she stood up, Josh soon realized that he was no longer taller than his sister, but rather the same height. 'Thanks Jenn.' He thought to himself but was soon brought back to reality when Courtney started talking to him. "I'm sorry what was that?" He asked her trying to act like nothing was out of the ordinary.
"Geeze Josh." Courtney answered with smirk. "I was asking what this is." She asked holding up the remote that fell out of Josh's open backpack. Bringing it closer to her face so that she could read outloud. "Select? Paste? Copy? What is this?" She asked as she held it out to her brother.
Letting out a drawn out sigh, knowing that he didn't have any way to get out of this because of his sister's mindset and she was going to figure it out one way or another. "I found it while I was leaving campus this afternoon and it has the ability to swap thing between two individuals." He went on to explain how he and Jenn swapped their heights earlier, but left out that they hadn't swapped back yet. Seeing that she wasn't believing him, Josh asked for the remote back. "Give it back to me and I can show you what I mean." Somewhat reluctantly Courtney handed the remote back to him. Thinking about what he wanted to copy, he pressed the button and aimed it over at her and pressed the paste button. Her eyes seemed to grow as the information of how to use the remote was inputted into her head. "Do you see what I mean?"
"Holy Shit." Courtney exclaimed, bringing her hands up to her head. Looking back over at her brother, she went to go grab the remote, but Josh held it above his head. "Nice try bro." She replied as she jumped up slightly to grab it. "Remember, we're the same height." Holding it out in front of her, she was thinking about what she could do with it.
Not liking the look in her eye and in an effort to get away from her, Josh quietly started to walk up the stairs to get to his room and escape his sister. "Where do you think you're going?" Courtney asked as she watched Josh freeze on the steps. "I just want to try this out real quick and after I'm done you can have it back."
Thinking about it for a moment but in the end, Josh ultimately nodded his head. "But if I don't like it then I'm swapping it back, understand?" Courtney grinned as she nodded her head.
