Entering the mall, the two of them looked around to see it busier than usual. Over the years with the rise of online shopping and the mega online shopping website 'Borneo', the mall had seen a dramatic decline in patrons. However, since a lot more small business owners started to set up shop in the aging building, the mall had seen a sort of renaissance. Gone were the toy shops and over priced luxury goods, instead there were a small number of hobby, soap, and small import shops. As they passed by one of their favorite shops, 'I Sekai no Mise', both Josh and Jenn couldn't help but stop and look through the windows at all the various manga and anime items that they stocked. The window shopping didn't seem to last too long as the two of them smelled the unmistakable scent of fajitas wafting through the air. They soon brought their sights to the Mexican restaurant across the way. 'Mi Gordo Amigo Americano' had been in business since the mid 90s and despite the derogatory name that they chose, the business had flourished.
"That smells so good." Jenn replied nearly drooling as she spoke. "How about we get something to eat and we can see if there is anything that we want to know while we're in there." Nodding his head, Josh agreed and the two of them made their way to the hostess stand where they were met by a cute lady that seemed to be a little older than themselves looking through her phone. She stood ad Josh's new height with long dark hair that spilled over her shoulders to her mid back. Her large doe-like eyes seemed to dance as she read the messages on the screen.
"Buenos tardes and welcome." She replied as she saw them standing at her pedestal waiting to be seated. "Will it just be the two of you today?" She asked with a slight hispanic accent. Both of them nodded and with a smile she motioned for her to follow her. Expertly, she grabbed a couple of menus as she passed the woven basket that held them and soon they were at a booth in the back corner and near kitchen.
Both of them got in the booth with Jenn deciding to have he back towards the wall so that she could look out into the restaurant. The place seemed to be somewhat busy with most of the tables filled with families and several of the tables looked to have staff from some of the other stores. "You know, that guy over there looks a little like Dr. Black from High School." Jenn whispered to Josh who started to turn around to see if he could get a glance. Seeing the man with salt and pepper hair sitting at a table with what the two of them thought to be his wife. "That man nearly ruined my GPA back in High School." She lamented thinking back at when she had to get a tutor to help get her through his tough and rigorous Honors Chemistry course. He was infamous for his tough love and getting all of his students ready for college. But in the end, with the help of her tutor from the university that they now both attended, she was able to get through the class with a B. However, that B caused her to get out of the running to be the valedictorian and allowed her former friend, Katie Bolivar to take her place.
Thinking for a moment, Josh had a sudden epiphany. "Jenn." He started to get her attention then lowered his voice to not garner too much attention. "Why don't you use the remote to copy over his chemistry knowledge to you." He suggested causing Jenn to smile as he slid the remote over to her since she had a better line of sight. With a smile on her face, Jenn discreetly aimed the remote over to her old teacher and thought about all of his chemistry knowledge while pressing the button. Taking a deep breath, she was about to bring the knowledge over to herself before Josh stopped her. "Wait." He commanded in a hurry that he almost didn't see the waitress behind him to come and get their drink order. Holding up a finger to signal to give him a moment, they both gave her their drink orders and he continued. "Let me give you the experience so that I will remember or I can see what will happen when I touch the remote while you do it to see if I can remember the changes too."
Sensing that this seemed to make some sense, she gave the remote back to him and he made the final swap. He watched as Jenn blinked her eyes several times to get the ability to see again. "That was wild." She exclaimed as she looked around the room and leaned in a little closer to him. "I remember almost all of his college and post graduate work." She whispered, trying not to attract too much attention. "Then there was the time that I worked for the oil company..." She stopped and looked back at Josh, who was awestruck at how much she remembered. "Wow, I didn't think that it would give me all his chemistry knowledge, but I'm not complaining." She giggled as she took the remote back. "Now how about you?" She asked looking around for some ideas. Seeing the crowded dining room seemed to over load her senses just a bit.
Looking around, Jenn could see the attractive hostess busily typing away on her phone at the hostess stand. A couple tables down, a little blonde hairdresser was busy taking a much deserved break from her hair salon a few stores down. The table next to her was a guy sitting with his wife and daughter while doing some commissioned art work on his iTablet. His wife, however seemed to be too engrossed with her phone call to see the world around her as her daughter was standing on the chair acting out one of her cartoons that she was watching on her dad's phone.
