Zulu Potion - I think so

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Thinking for a moment, Emily nodded her head. "You know what Josh said earlier about how a relationship can be like a bird?" She asked causing Jenn to nod her head. "Well, when I was helping a friend of mine to study for her Anthropology exam, one of the questions was about the use of feathers." Emily added causing both, Josh and Jenn, to hang on her words. "Some cultures believed that feathers could be seen as an omen or sight from the sky gods. The shamans would weave them into their staves or headdresses to signify their authority. So, if we use a feather to stir or just add it all together, then."

"That would be enough to satisfy the sky god requirement." Jenn finished as she looked at Emily. "Em, you're brilliant." She complimented her as she looked around. "But all the birds have migrated and I'm sure it would be hard to find one with the snow coming in." She announced crestfallen after realizing what time of the year it was.

Hearing this, Josh felt happy that he wasn't going to be used as a lab animal for his girlfriend's science experiment. Emily got up and went to her room. "Where is she going?" Josh wondered aloud as he turned to watch Emily.

It didn't take her long to find what she was looking for, however. When she came out, in her right hand she clutched a lone feather. "I found this feather when I was hiking with my Dad at Ricketts Glen Falls this past summer." She replied holding up an eagle feather. "I was going to use it to make Dad a dream catcher. It was something that Mom would love to do when she was still alive."

Hearing this, Jenn tried to persuade her. "Em, if you want to use this for your Dad, we understand." She told her holding up her hands in protest. "I mean, this little project is something that might not even work and..." She tried to continue, but was cut off when Emily put the feather in her hands.

"I don't care if it will work of not, I probably won't be getting around to making the dream catcher until next year sometime anyway." She conceded. "You never said what this is supposed to do."

Taken aback, Jenn quickly smiled. "Sorry, Em." She replied looking embarrassed. "You're right, I never told you what it's supposed to do." Opening the book to the page, she found the potion that she was hoping to craft. "Right here, its called the Zulu potion. When we get everything together and say this incantation, then it will allow the drinker to turn into somebody else by touching their clothes."

Looking skeptical, Emily narrowed her eyes at Jenn. "Jenn, you know I was born at night, but not last night." She replied while crossing her arms across her chest.

After seeing the power that she had, Josh held up his hand. "I saw her do something with the book and can faithfully say that if its written in the book, then I'm sure it will happen." He replied as he told her the story of the cup of coffee at the shop.

Still feeling rather skeptical that it will work, Emily looked back at Jenn. "So if it does work, can we keep on using it?" She asked with a mischievous look on her face.

Jenn shook her head. "It looks like there is a set time that I have to wait before I'm able to make a new one, so it could be a day or it could be longer." She replied gathering up all the ingredients. "Em, do you..." She started but was cut off by Josh.

"Wait." Josh demanded holding up his hand. "So you're saying that if I drink this potion, then I will stuck as that person until you can make another potion? If that's the case, I don't think I want to do it."

Seeing his point, Jenn nodded her head. "How about this." She replied looking back over at Josh. "If you do this, then I will find a way where you can stay the night over at my house and our Moms can't say a thing. What do you think of that?" Seeing that he was still a little apprehensive about it all. Leaning in closer so that only he could hear. "When you turn back then I will go all the way with you." She purred, causing the goosebumps to rise up on the back of his neck. For the past year, Josh had been trying to take their relationship to the next level, but there were several things in the way, their Moms being the main obstacle.

Taking a moment to think about it a little further, Josh leaned back into the couch. Sighing, he looked over at Jenn and Emily. "After much thought and deliberation, I guess I can take one for the team and test out this potion." Hearing this, Jenn could only smile. "I mean, based on the ingredients, the worse thing that can happen is that it doesn't taste too good, right?" He asked.

Without giving him an answer, Jenn clasped her hands together. "Great, lets get this going." She replied, quickly getting to her feet and made her way into the kitchen. Following closely behind her, both Emily and Josh watched as she started to go through the cabinets in search of something. "Where do you keep your pans, Em?" She asked while opening the cabinet doors right next to the stove. "Never mind. I found one." Jenn replied as she pulled out one of the older pans that Emily owned. With the pan in hand, Jenn stood up and looked at the stove. "Umm... We might have a problem." She announced while looking at the electric stove.

"Whats the problem, Jenn." Emily asked looking at the stove.

Gesturing towards the stove, Jenn replied. "Well, we need fire's embrace, but I don't think an electric stove is going to cut it." She stood there thinking for a moment. "Wait, don't you have a fire pit outside that you use during the summer?" She asked turning around to meet Emily.

Her face seemed to brighten up slightly as she asked this. "You know what, its in the shed." She gestured over towards the far end of the back yard. The shed close to the fence line was rung down, but it still seemed to do its job by holding the gardening equipment and the lawn mower. Since it was the near the start of winter, it hadn't seem much use for a couple months. "Joshie, do you mind helping out and getting the fire pit out of the storage?" Emily asked hanging onto Josh's arm.

"Don't call me Joshie." He grumbled as he nodded his head. "Fine, I will do it for you Em." He looked over at Jenn, who looked as if she was about to kill somebody. "Oh, uh... I will do it for you most of all, Jenn." He replied with a smile causing Jenn to frown. It didn't take too long to find the fire pit in the shed, since it was in the front. He put it away from the porch, just in case an ember flew out and landed on it and causing it to catch on fire. Setting up the wood with some small, dry kindling he found, Josh looked back over to Jenn and Emily. "Do any of you happen to have a match or a lighter?" He asked hoping that they haven't come this far only to be stopped with something so mundane.

Taking a moment to think about it, Emily nodded her head. "Actually, I've got a lighter inside. It's on top of my Grandma's cupboard that my Dad uses to show of his Mom's fine china. We keep it on top and I can't really reach it since its too tall for me. Do you mind getting it for me?"

Knowing that Jenn wouldn't be able to get it without a step stool, Josh agreed. "Fine." He sighed as he started to head back inside.

When he was out of sight, Jenn turned to Emily. "What are you doing?" She asked with a little hostility in her voice.

Sensing her friend's feelings, Emily put her hand on Jenn's shoulder. "Relax, I was just seeing if he's faithful to you. I didn't mean anything by it, I swear." Emily replied holding her pinky out. "I pinky swear I didn't."

Taking Emily's pinky into her own, Jenn sighed. "Fine, but before we met, he had been trying to get us to go out for several years."

As they were talking, Josh came out with one of the long lighters that people use to start grills. "I think I found it Em." He said holding it up for her to see. "Jenn, are you ready?" He asked looking at his girlfriend.

Still not fully trusting Emily, she shook her head. "Give me a minute and I will come out with it. Go ahead and work your magic" Josh nodded his head and started the fire, steadily blowing air into the embers to help coax it into reality. True to her word, Jenn had brought all the items needed. A bottle of water, petals from a daisy, the eagle feather that Emily had given her earlier, and the old pan that she'd fished out of one of the cabinets in the kitchen. After several minutes, the fire was roaring and Jenn had placed everything in the pot. Grabbing the book, she started the incantation. Raising her hands above the pot, she recited. "His elementis matrem ad terram clamo. Sit illa, obsecro, mutare formam!" Repeating the phrase several times to get the maximum effect, the fire seemed to engulf the pan. At first Jenn and the others thought it was a bust, but just as fast as the fire engulfed the pan, it subsided, leaving a small glass tube with a liquid that had a golden hue.

"Is that it?" Josh asked pointing at the tube. Jenn, feeling a little exhausted after using her energy, nodded her head. "Wow, it looks like its giving off light." He pointed out as Jenn ave him the tube. "What? You didn't actually mean it?!?"

Jenn, nodded her head. "Every bit of it. Now drink up while we figure out what to do."

Still not wanting to do this, Josh decided that since Jenn had promised him something if he'd do it, he would oblige. "You better deliver, Jenn." He said as he tipped the tube up and downed the liquid in one go. As he swallowed, the light emitting potion caused him to emit the same light.

"Come on Emily, lets figure out what he can turn into." Jenn said pulling Emily inside. "Do you know what you want to try and use?"

Nodding her head, Emily pulled Jenn to her room. "I want him to wear this." In her hands, she held ________>
