The year came to an end with nothing of importance happening, but just like the sun rising for another day, the school year began a new and the four friends met up after class on a spring afternoon. Josh and Jenn were standing outside of the Biology building waiting for their friends to meet up with them. "Do you know why Will asked us to meet up with him after class?" Jenn asked looking down at her phone to see that several minutes had already passed since class had let out. Even though she didn't have any other classes that day, she would rather be in the library looking over her study materials instead of waiting for one of Josh's friends to meet up with them.
"No." Emily sighed as she tried her best not to be annoyed by having to wait. Will and the blonde haired beauty had only recently started going out and hadn't told her father about him just yet, only because he seemed to think that every guy that she dated was never good enough for her.
Josh was seated near by with his back leaning on the science building watching a parade of ants doing their best to bring a dead beetle back to their queen. His hair had gotten just a little longer and was starting to go past his ears and he didn't like it too much, but Jenn loved it and kept putting it off to get it cut because of her. Soon the three of them were interrupted from their not so busy schedule by a familiar voice coming from the doorway near where they were sitting. "Sorry to keep you waiting, I had to ask the professor about making up a lab day." Will apologized as he looked over at the group.
Seeming a little annoyed at having to wait and losing such valuable study time, Jenn locked her phone and put it back into her messenger bag that she usually carried with her. As she placed it in her bag, she brought her annoyed look back over to Will who had just kissed Emily. "If you did all your work when we do, then you wouldn't be in this mess, would you?" She scolded.
"Geeze, lay off him, Jenn." Josh sighed as he started to get back up, wiping the dirt off the back of his jeans, in an attempt to look clean and presentable. "So what did you want to talk to us about?" He asked Will who looked a little embarrassed at Jenn's scolding.
"Well, you know how we watched some of those Urban Exploration videos on Metube?" Will asked the group causing them to nod their head. Over the past several weeks the four of them got hooked on several different channels that would explore abandoned building to see what remained from the past. They've watched it so much that Will took it upon his self to look for buildings around their area to start their own channel. "Well, Darren told me about an old building that looks abandoned in the woods just outside of town and I thought it would be a great place to start our little project." He announced to the group causing a little stir to start among them.
"Really?" Emily asked with a smile starting to grow on her face.
"That would be a great first video." Josh thought aloud while looking over at Jenn. "What do you think?"
Nodding her head, Jenn couldn't help but agree. "Yeah, I guess." Looking back over at Will, she asked a simple question. "When did you want to do it?"
"We could do it tonight if you're up for it." He quickly replied. "I mean, we can use our phones to film and I can pick up some flash lights for when it gets too dark to see." Thinking that this would be a good idea to get a channel going, the three other friends nodded their heads. "Great, lets meet up at Gruff's Gas and Stuff at around 5. That way I can lead you all over there and we can stay together."
Josh and Jenn nodded their heads in agreement since it seemed like a great place to start. Emily, however, seemed to have some apprehensiveness about doing this. "Will it be alright for us to go in and do this sort of stuff." She asked timidly. "I mean, can we call the city counsil up and ask if we can go inside to look around?"
Thinking about it for a moment, Will shook his head. "They wouldn't let us go in there, but if we stay together and watch each other's backs, it should be fine. I mean, not getting caught is what makes it all worth while too." Seeing a little truth in this, Emily nodded her head in agreement.
Josh and Jenn decided to head over to their favorite coffee shop to wait for the time to come, which ironically was just a block down from their meeting point. This way they can talk to Zoe to see if it would be alright if they could leave the car there for a couple more hours. Emily decided to go home and get ready. Changing her clothes to a more comfortable pair of jeans, T-shirt, and sneakers rather than the dress and sandals that she was currently wearing. Will headed over to the local discount store in order to get the supplies needed for the night. Looking around, he was able to find several LED head lamps and a camping lantern, which would be a great for large open rooms allowing them to see more.
The time grew near and the four of them met at the rendezvous point. Will, Emily, and Jenn met near the sign while Josh headed inside to grab a few snacks for their little excursion. Coming outside, Josh put the plastic bag of goodies in his backpack and met up with the other three. "Are you all ready to go?" Will asked the group, who all nodded their heads in agreement. "Great, lets get going." He announced as he started to lead them down the sidewalk, through a park that had several families playing and burning off the energy of the youth, and then through the woods behind the park.
"How much longer?" Emily asked while picking some leaves out of her hair. They had walked nearly 2 miles in order to visit the mysterious building that was starting to sound like fictitious the more they walked.
Looking down at his phone which had Foofle Maps pulled up, Will smiled as he saw that their geolocated position was near the building. "It's just right up ahead and past this tree line." He announced pointing the way like a guide to a group of weary travelers. Walking past the tree line, the four students saw a forgotten building  . They stood in silence for a moment looking at the building which has stood the test of time. "From what I was told, this building was used starting in the 1940s and worked until the mid 90s." Will told them as they grew closer to the opening. Pausing for a moment, the group looked around and back to their leader on this expedition.
Looking at the dark, abandoned building, Jenn looked over at Will, who was just starting to go inside the boundary that building called home. "Do you know what this building was used for in the past?" She asked, hoping to have a better understanding of what to expect when they enter the mysterious structure.
"I'm sorry, I thought I told you." Will chuckled as he held his hand out as if presenting a gift to a new winner. "This was once used as a ________"   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
