Jonathan hung up the phone and looked over the notes he had taken, before turning to the computer on his desk and typing in the info. Mike was nestled snugly, and began to try to crawl around in the thick beard.
“Get comfy,” Jonathan laughed, slipping a fresh cigarette between his lips. “You’ll probably have to spend a lot of time in there.”
The statement caught Mike off guard, he realized Jonathan’s intentions were to keep him. But he also figured that would be better than trying to survive in the alleyway between the shops, running from a cat the size of a dinosaur.
Smoke poured out of Jonathan’s nose and onto his beard, making Mike cough.
“Better learn to embrace the smoke as well,” Jonathan chuckled. “Mel is a wiz with the sewing machine. I bet she can somehow make you some tiny clothes.”
Melanie was Jonathan’s wife. She would often come in the bagel shop for coffee. Mike remembered Jonathan’s home life was a little out of the ordinary. Jonathan and Melanie had a live in girlfriend, Tabitha. She had worked at the bagel shop a few years before, while she was in college studying to be a teacher. She had always told Mike she was leaving them as soon as she graduated, but three years later that was not the case.
Mike found himself comfortable in the warm beard and dozed off.
