Walter is in the basement, working in his lab, which is nothing of a surprise. He is pretty much always in his lab, tinkering and working. The only thing that brings him out is his daughter Sally who he loves, and would do anything for, though he needs help getting her places since he no longer has a license. It's not so much that he lost it, as he can't afford a car or insurance, and uses Uber when he needs to get someplace. Sally has the bus for school, and while he can't get her too and from practice, the club team she is on has a carpool group, and he contributes gas money to it. It from this ride that Sally comes in, dropping her backpack and practice bag at the door, calling out "Hey Dad I'm home"
Walter can hear a tone in her voice and knows something is wrong, so he heads upstairs and finds her pouring a bowl of cereal. If she is eating cereal just before dinner time, he knows she is really bothered, so sits with her "Hey baby, what's wrong, did you do poorly on that test you were worried about?" She sighs "no, I actually had second highest grade in the class, my fears were for nothing. About that at least." she sighs and scoops some more cereal. "C'mon Sal, tell me what's wrong." She puts the spoon down roughly "I dunno why I should tell you, this isn't one of those problems you can fix....Angie from our club team, our libero, she blew out her knee...wasn't even at practice. She was walking her dog and a squirrel ran past....dog took off just as she stepped in a small hole, tore ACL and PCL so now it looks like our team is SOL, and just before qualifiers for the the tournament" she huffs and stirs her cereal with her spoon dejectedly.
Walter puts a hand on her shoulder, and having played volleyball back when he was at community college, he knows what a good libero Angie is, and how losing her pretty much dooms the team. "Is there anyone else who could step up and be libero?" Sally grumps "Yeah, they want me to do it, but I know I am not good enough....my backline play is strong, but I struggle on front! If I play libero, we suck on front, and I'll be out of position for back too much. There's nothing we can do, unless you got a machine down there that magic up and other 18under volleyball girl." Walter blinks and leans back "Huh" he says with an odd expression, one that gets through Sally's moping demeanor. "What do you mean, huh, Dad...what have you been working on?"
Walter considers, and swallows, knowing this could be really awkward. "It's only in its initial phases, and one of the issues is that the process can't be reversed for a week at the moment..." Sally gets frustrated as her Dad trails off in thought "Dad, cmon, out with it!" he blinks, having been lost in thought "I created a transformation suit.... connected to the device in my lab, it allows a person to be turned into anyone or even anything. I wanted to test it, but was gonna wait until after the tournament since it would mean I'd be unavailable for a week, but, well...
