Chapter #5

Testing, one two.

Brie was intrigued by the mysterious bracelet, but she had seen enough movies to know that many magical artifacts came with limitations and often drawbacks. The twelve year old could be quite judicious and analytical when the moment called for it, mainly when tickling was involved. “If you spent half the effort on your schoolwork…” Her mother would often lament. Regardless, there was an ancient artifact to study and much fun to be had on the way.

The first thing Brie did was to take out a fresh journal and begin documenting everything she knew about the bracelet. She figured, if some tragic fate befell her, at least someone would find her writing and be forewarned. To start, she sketched a rough picture of it, making sure to capture the general look of the gold band as well as the colors of the jewel in the center. Below that, she wrote:

"Found the bracelet buried in Maxie's secret stash in the backyard. Don't recognize it and nobody on the internet does either. Wonder where it came from? Maybe Cursed?"

Next, she recounted the strange occurrence of when she put the bracelet on, how the wind seemed to blow at just the right moment to tickle Elise. She added another simple depiction of the scene to the journal, which was basically stick figures. Underneath, she drew Maxie burying his treasures, making sure to add his signature goofy tongue out smile. She captioned this one "Chief suspect for source of bracelet, but doesn't know anything about it either. Still a good boy!"

“Will continue testing and documenting results…” Brie said out loud as she finished writing. She slapped the journal closed, grabbed the bracelet and ran outside. Maxie lazed in his crate chewing on Brie’s missing doll.

Back in her tree perch, Brie surveyed the neighborhood. It gave her a view of her surroundings and was inconspicuous: the perfect testing spot.

From her vantage, she spied a mom coming from the nearby park who was crossing the street with her baby in the stroller. “No, don’t want to risk the baby.” A ways off, she saw the high school girls track team running through the streets. “Hmm might injure them if I distract them.”

As Brie scanned the neighborhood, her eyes landed on the backyard two houses down. Laying out on pool loungers by the fence were Annabelle and Isabelle, identical twin sisters a bit older than Tina. Their shorts and tees were casually strewn on the ground around them to reveal matching red polka dot bikinis. Both girls had long, tanned legs. Their shoulder-length brown hair framed their heart-shaped faces and hazel eyes, which were closed as they enjoyed the sun. Brie had never had a chance to tickle them, but now was as good a chance as she would get.

She watched as Annabelle got up, said something to her sister, and went inside. Slipping the bracelet on, the young girl waved her hand at Isabelle, who was currently laying on her back. A faint breeze picked up, carrying with it drifting leaves and bits of fluff. They danced across Isabelle's exposed midriff and sides. To her disappointment, Brie saw Isabelle squirm and brush away at the leaves, but there wasn’t a proper ticklish reaction. “Drat! What if she’s not ticklish to begin with.” Thought Brie. “Or what if they’re too far away?”

As Annabelle returned with a bottle in her hand, she noticed some leaves and fluff had drifted onto her sister’s stomach. "Hey sis, you've got a little something on you," she said, brushing the debris off casually.

But as her fingers made contact with Isabelle’s skin, the girl erupted into a fit of high-pitched giggles. "Eeek, that tickles!!" she squealed, doubling over on the lounger.

Annabelle raised an eyebrow, amused. "Whoa, somebody's extra sensitive today." She pushed her finger into her sister’s exposed side, making her shriek.

“Don’t!” Isabelle cried, twisting away from Annabelle's teasing touches. Her skin seemed hyper-sensitive all of a sudden.

Annabelle paused, a mischievous grin spreading on her face as an idea formed. "Say, do you need any more sunscreen?" Without waiting for an answer, she started squeezing lotion onto her hands.

"No, wait! Anna, don't you dare - ahhh! hahaha!" Realizing her intentions, the teen tried to scramble away but it was too late. Her sister pounced, her lotioned hands slipping into the cracks under her arms.

Brie watched from her perch, fascinated as Annabelle climbed on top of her sister to pin her in place. From there, she was free to squeeze her wriggling digits into the soft skin of Isabelle’s armpits. Underneath her, the tortured girl threw her head back and screamed with laughter, her body arching off the lounger. Brie could clearly make out her begging even two houses away.

As Brie watched the ticklish scene unfold below, she felt the mysterious bracelet seemed to grow warmer on her wrist. She glanced down at it and was surprised to see the jewel in the center pulsing with a gentle blue-green glow. A fresh scream drew her attention back to the twins. Annabelle had slid her slick fingers down to her sister’s ribs and was digging into them. Brie enjoyed the scene until a third voice, presumably the girls’ mother, rang from the inside of the house telling them to quiet down. The girl on top grinned mischievously and gave the bottom girl one last squeeze, eliciting a squeal. "Sorry mom!" she called back in a tone that didn't sound very sorry. Still giggling and bickering, the two sisters disengaged and went back to tanning.

Brie made her way down the tree so quickly that she almost missed a few branches. She ran inside to journal her findings:

"When worn, seems to trigger gusts of wind capable of carrying leaves, dust, etc. to tickle exposed skin on contact. Effects appear limited to gentle breezes so far. Distance may limit effectiveness. Could possibly encourage others to tickle?"

She went on to describe the scene she had just witnessed. With the first entry finished she put her pen down.
