Fox Mccloud walked through the halls of the Great Fox. Today has been a long day of meetings with officials, training recruits and helping the Cornerian military overall, all thanks to a special program made by the Cornerian higher ups to "Let the hero of the Lyat system inspire the youths!".
Sure, Fox liked to help whenever he can, but being a famous hero sure was tiring, and it was keeping him away from the real action. But for now, he just wanted a good sleep...
But when he arrived at the door to his quarters, he encontered an ornate box just outside. It was weird, he wasn't expecting any package, and this one surely didn't look like an ordinary one. It looked like it was made from some kind of metal and it was painted with the Cornerian military colours, it also had an inscription saying "Classified material. For authorized personel only. Deliver to Fox Mccloud."
It sure looked important, so Fox took it into his quarters, locking the door behind him.
Fox placed the box on his desk after cleaning it up a little. "Who could have send me this and why? I sure hope it's not a bomb." He said half joking. He took a deep breath and decided to open it, hoping it wouldn't blow up on his face. The first thing he saw was a small data pad, it looked pretty standard and cheap. He placed it aside and continued to pull out the box's contents. What followed was undoubtedly the main piece of the package, it was some kind of blaster, it's design unlike any model he saw before. It was neatly placed in a foam casing to prevent any problems during the shipping, to it's side was a small booklet with the words "Instructions" in a very large font.
He took out the gun, feeling it on his hand. It was quite small and light, enough to easily hide it while still being confortable to shoot. "Huh, did they sent me some kind of prototype weapon or something? Better to not fiddle with it too much until i know what it does." Fox said as he placed it back into the box. His attention returned to the datapad, surely it contained more information.
He grabbed it and power it up, soonly the screen turned on and a voice began speaking. "Commencing identification procedure, please do not move." Small lights shoot from the datapad, scanning Fox's face. "Identity confirmed. Welcome Fox Mccloud." The screen then began to load a video message, Fox was confused as he did not recognized the person in it. It was a reptile wearing an uniform that looked similar to the ones that high rank members of the Cornerian military wore. Intrigued, Fox hit play on the recording.
"Greetings Mr. Mccloud, this is the Sargent Campell speaking. I am the head of Corneria's special forces, we are dedicated to infiltration, espionage and information gathering among other things. We have send you this as gift, a way for us and the board of generals to reward you for all the good work you've provided in the last weeks. This package contains a groundbreaking experimental device engineered by our R&D team. We would like for you to test it and send us your feedback while you enjoy it's marvelous capabilities. The booklet that comes alongside it shall give you more information of it's uses."
"Wow, seems like my good deeds finally paid off. This sounds quite interesting... i wonder what it does." Fox thought to himself, before being interrupted by one last part of the message.
"This datapad will autodestruct in 5 seconds for confidentiality's sake. Thank you for your time and good luck!"
Fox threw the datapad into the ground with a yelp and took cover behind his bed. The explosion he was expecting never came, but as he slowly came out of cover, he saw the datapad disintegrating and leaving ashes on the floor. "Great, now I'll have to clean that later..."
He turned his attention back to package, he grabbed the small booklet and began to skim through it's pages.
He learned that this was called a "Skinsuit Device", when shot to a humanoid individual/creature, the device's nanomachines will turn the target into a perfect suit that looks exactly like the real thing. The user of the device can then put on the suit to assume the identity of the target.
Fox's mind was blown, how was such a thing possible? He wondered if this was just some sort of elaborate joke, but the concept was quite intriguing, so he kept reading.
When the user puts on the suit, the user will "merge" with the suit, changing their anatomy to fit the target's and essentially letting the suit become their new skin. The user will also gain access to the target's memories and personality to better impersonate the objective and make the infiltration easier.
"So this is what they meant by groundbreaking... this is insane! How can this technology even exist?" Fox exclaimed in surprise before continuing.
To end the process and return to a normal state, the user must activate the device again on themselves to turn the target back into a suit, then activate it a second time once empty to return the target to it's original form. The target will have no memory of any of the events that happened while the user was in their form, and the target will continue to be a suit indefinitely until the device is activated on them a second time.
Important notes:
-Although the device can be used on wild creatures and robotic lifeforms, it is not recommended due to the vast unpredictability of said organisms.
-The use of a second skinsuit while already wearing one has not been tested, and it's results are unknown.
-Long stays as the target creature have shown signs of the user "Adapting" and feeling a sense of belonging to the target's life. Due to this, it's advised to not wear a suit for more than 3 days. Longer stays have not been tested and can have more unknown complications.
-This is still an experimental device, some bugs and small complications may occur.
-If some aspects of the target's personality still linger after the removal of the suit, please contact the team immediately.
As Fox finished reading the booklet, he was left awestruck. This kind of technology is revolutionary! To become another person entirely sounded like fiction, yet here was a device that could do it... presumably.
He still needed to test it to be sure, but if it truly worked, it could bring him an unparalleled advantage in battle... and maybe a nice way to take a rest from being a hero...
He get up from his chair and grabbed the device, he needed to know if this was legitimate... but who would he test it with?
Before he could ponder it much longer, he heard a knock on the door... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
