I had been in the pub for hours, drinking and talking to the regulars. As usual, I had spent the night lying about my supposed adventures. I looked around, but the street was empty. The only sound was the wind whistling through the trees and the occasional rustle of leaves.
I wanted to go to an inn to sleep, but I didn't have the money. The last thing I wanted was to sleep on the street, so I decided to go sleep in the forest. After all, it wasn't the first time.
The guards were half asleep and didn't even notice me leave. As I walked through the forest, sleepy and cold, a thought crossed my mind:
- When had this convoluted facade begun?
I knew the answer. It went back a couple of years, but my question was more related to the fact that I lied so naturally. At first, they were just small lies in the adventurer's guild. My teammates didn't care that I exaggerated our adventures. Everything was going relatively well until the members of the group who had visions abandoned us. I can imagine that they saw us as a burden, after all they had been "blessed by the gods with power", they were protagonists of their world and we were just a stepping stone on their path to seeking glory.
The alcohol was making me dizzy, and my body felt heavy. I tried to vomit, but my body wouldn't respond. I couldn't walk any further, so I collapsed next to a tree. Was I dying? At any other time in my life, I would be worried, but something in my mind didn't allow me to think about the question I had asked myself earlier.
- Are those of us who don't have visions not important?
For a moment silence ran through my head but after thinking about it clearly, tears began to fall from my eyes. Why was I trying to lie to myself?
If I were one of them I would have been the first to leave,I could be the adventurer I deserve to be. I could have riches and not have to be dying in the middle of the forest where no one cared about me.
My vision began to blur, my heart kept beating more aggressively, and the sounds around me began to become less and less clear. In my last seconds of life I saw a light in the sky that looked like a shooting star and only one idea passed through my mind.
- I just hope that if one day I can be reborn, I can stop being a secondary character and become a protagonist.
