Makoto honestly couldn't even be surprised that the task of looking after Akira fell to her. That didn't mean that she didn't resent the assumption. Futaba certainly didn't help with an offhand remark that she was the most "Mom-coded", whatever that meant.
At least Haru was kind enough to offer a ride home in the back of her limo. Makoto wasn't sure how she would have handled carrying the little Akira back home as well as supplies needed to look after him on her own. Haru tagging along and a short stop to pick up said items.
All that was left was figuring out what to tell Sae. Makoto thought it over as Akira fussed in her arms. She thought it over as she soothed him with a gentle sway and soft hums. It didn't surprise her that Akira was docile as a baby. However, it did concern her that the baby wouldn't make his needs known.
Stalling at the front door of her apartment, Makoto prepared herself for a somewhat awkward conversation and ask. Haru, at her side, sent her a gentle smile of moral support, and Akira offered his own with a tiny, soft hand reaching up and patting at Makoto's cheek. His wide, gray innocent eyes helped convince her that it would be okay as she smiled back at him and entered the apartment.
"Sis, you home?" Makoto asked, calling into the apartment proper as she and Haru entered. "I have some guests over."
"In the kitchen, finishing up dinner," Sae answered. "Just finishing up on dinner. How was your Student Council meeting?"
Makoto appreciated the discretion regarding her being a Phantom Thief. "About that... Something happened to Akira while we were in Mementos. He's safe, I just think you should see for yourself. Haru's here, too."
"Hello, Niijima-san," Haru greeted. "I hope you don't mind if we stay the night."
Sae emerged towards the entrance. "Of course not..." Sae trailed off, ending with a hum of confusion as she processed the image of her little sister holding a baby that had to have been less than a year old. All the more confusing was that the child bore a striking resemblance to Akira, but it couldn't be.
Having noticed Sae's hesitation, Haru spoke up. "Kira-chan was hit by a strange shadow, and he's stuck like this until we figure a way to bring him back to normal."
"I see..." Sae cautiously approached Makoto just to make sure her eyes were in fact telling her the truth as she got a closer look at Akira, who only nestled himself deeper into the crook of Makoto's neck. Sae chuckled awkwardly, running a hand through his soft hair. She cooed at the child, "Well it's a good thing you're supposed to be in hiding, right?"
"I didn't know you had a soft spot for kids, sis," Makoto teased.
Sae hummed. "I helped raise you, you know."
Later... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
