As John helped Hailey with her bags, he tried to make sense of the morning's events and the sudden height change. Despite his confusion, he pushed the thoughts aside and focused on getting home. They reached Hailey's house, and she thanked him profusely before heading inside with her shopping bags.
John continued his walk home, unsettled but determined not to let it ruin his day. He arrived home and decided to relax with some video games, hoping to distract himself from the strange occurrences.
Later that evening, his mom's friends Sandra and Melanie came over for their usual get-together. The house was filled with the delicious aroma of Sandra’s famous lasagna and Melanie’s freshly baked cookies. John’s stomach growled as he realized how hungry he still was, despite the massive breakfast and large lunch he had consumed.
“Hi John!” Sandra greeted him warmly, “You’re looking good! Have you grown taller?”
John forced a smile, feeling awkward. “Actually, I think I might’ve shrunk a bit.”
Melanie chuckled, “Well, you still look handsome. I wish I could eat like you and stay in shape.” She turned to Sarah and started chatting about their day.
John felt another wave of hunger hit him, even stronger than before. The smell of lasagna and cookies was overwhelming, and he found himself drawn to the kitchen. Unable to resist, he started devouring the food set out on the table. Each bite seemed to only increase his appetite, and he continued eating long after he was full.
His mom and her friends watched in amazement. “Wow, John, you sure can eat!” Melanie said with a laugh. “I wish I had your metabolism.”
John’s stomach ached from the sheer volume of food, but he couldn’t stop himself. He finally finished, feeling incredibly bloated. He stumbled to the couch, his swollen belly making it hard to move comfortably.
Sarah looked at him with concern. “Honey, are you okay? You ate so much!”
John nodded weakly. “I don’t know what’s happening, Mom. I just can’t stop eating.”
Sandra and Melanie exchanged glances, clearly worried. “Maybe it’s just a growth spurt,” Sandra suggested, trying to reassure him.
John nodded, though he wasn’t convinced. He decided to head to bed early, hoping some rest would help. As he lay in bed, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
