Calem had just been woken up by Fletchling. Now he was very much awake, he saw the time and got dressed.
Heading downstairs, he saw his mother was waiting for him.
"Morning, Calem. You sure slept in. All rested from the move?"
"More or less."
Calem then went onto cook and eat a cooked breakfast. He would have cleaned up to, but his mom stopped him.
"Isn't it about time you got going? Why don't you go say hi to the neighbours?" She said it in the form of a question, but her tone made it clear it wasn't a suggestion.
He took the hint and left.
As he opened the door, he saw two women, a tall blond and a small brunette, coming down the driveway.
"Welcome to Vaniville Town." The blond one said. "My name's Serena. I'm your neighbour."
"And I'm Shauna, great to meet you. Guess what, we've come to get you."
"The esteemed Professor Sycamore lives here in the Kalos region. I was told he has a request for five kids, including us. But I'm a little surprised he knows who you are. You did just move here, after all."
"We'll wait for you in the next town over." Shauna said exitedly. "And you know what? We're going to get a pokémon! C'mon! Let's go!" She said before dashing away.
Serena just gave a smile, a wave, and left.
It took him a second to fully register what Shauna said. When he did, he ran back inside and hurriedly packed a bag for his journey.
After explaining what was going on, his mom told him to be safe.
On his way to Aquacorde Town, he stopped in Route 1 to catch his breath when he saw a pokéflute in the bushes.
He decided to keep it and then started making his way, again.
"Hey, Calem! Over here!"
He turned to see Shawna and Serena sitting at a table with a rotund, jovial guy and a red head. Going over to them, he saw the two had just finished eating.
After introductions, Tierno explained about Serena, Shauna, and Calem being invited by Professor Sycamore to help in his research in Mega Evolution.
"Yea, me and Trevor got our starters a few years ago. It was an amazing feeling."
As Tierno reached down for something, Trevor handed the three a pokédex each.
"So here." He said, getting back up. "Now you bet to choose your starter!"
