With Mudkip, the Poochyena got scared off and Birch embraced May.

When they were done, Birch invited Brendan to the lab.

After introductions, and a lot of thanks, Brendan was allowed to keep Treeko. As he went to leave, May called him back.

"I was wondering, since we both have our first pokémon, you want a friendly spar?"

He accepted and they went back to Route 101 for some space.
