Wally's day didn't start out well as his illness began acting up. He was coughing and wheezing all morning and didn't clear up until the noon.
He knew that he had to move to Verdanturf Town but he didn't want to go alone, so he went next door to go speak with Norman. Norman hadn't lived here long but was very friendly.
When Wally entered the gym, Norman was speaking to a guy with a white hat that looked like hair. "Oh, hey, Wally. What's going on?"
Wally tried not to make eye contact with the stranger. "Hello, sir." He was always nervous calling Norman by his name. "I'm leaving today and I was wondering if you could help me catch a Pokémon? I don't want to go alone."
Norman smiled softly. "Sure thing." He handed him a pokéball. "Here, you can use Zigzagoon. Oh, by the way, this is my son, Brendan." He then turned to talk to his son. "You wouldn't mind helping Wally catch his first pokémon, would you?"
Brendan shook his head. "No, I don't mind." He then followed Wally to Route 102.
As they searched, Brendan started conversing with him and Wally opened up a little about his illness and how no one was really sure what was wrong. Before Brendan could show sympathy, he saw a Ralts and pointed it out.
Wally called out Zigzagoon who talked Ralts and, being over exited, immediately threw a pokéball. The ball shook a little but Ralts had been caught. He was so excited that he needed a second to start breathing again, which is when he saw a pokéflute in the dirt. He picked it up, deciding to clean it later.
When they returned to the gym, Wally returned Norman's Zigzagoon.
"Before you leave," Norman said, "I've been in contact with Professor Elm and he sent this." He held out a pokéball. "It's a starter pokémon. I thought you could use it if you get in trouble."
