Serena knew to expect Professor Sycamore's assistants today, as they had arranged to meet nearly a week ago. What she wasn't expecting was the request they were going to give her.
The phone started ringing, so she answered it. "Hello, this is Serena."
"Hey Serena, it's Trevor."
She didn't expect to hear from them so early. "Oh, hey. I thought you weren't going to contact us till later."
"Yea, we arrived late last night, so we decided to stay the night in Aquacorde Town's Inn. Would you mind meeting us at the restaurant?"
"Yea, sure. I'll tell Shauna."
"And... um... could you ask Calem to come, too? Sycamore said he'd be your new neighbour."
"Oh, yea, sure. See you soon." She hung up, confused.
After getting ready, she went over to Shauna's and relayed the message.
Shauna didn't care. She was too excited to get her starter.
As they approached their new neighbour, the door opened, and Calem came out.
"Welcome to Vaniville Town." She said. "My name's Serena. I'm your neighbour."
"And I'm Shauna, great to meet you. Guess what, we've come to get you."
"The esteemed Professor Sycamore lives here in the Kalos region. I was told he has a request for five kids, including us. But I'm a little surprised he knows who you are. You did just move here, after all."
"We'll wait for you in the next town over." Shauna said exitedly. "And you know what? We're going to get a pokémon! C'mon! Let's go!" She said before dashing away.
Serena just gave a smile, a wave, and left. She went to join Shauna, only to see her running ahead.
Walking into Route 1, she noticed a pokéflute on the road and decided to keep it.
Continuing on her way, she joined Shauna to see Tierno with a mighty big breakfast and Trevor with a more normal breakfast.
Not long after, she saw Calem running out of Route 1.
"Hey, Calem! Over here!"
He turned towards them and joined them as Tierno and Trevor finished eating.
After introducing themselves to him, Tierno explained about Serena, Shauna, and Calem being invited by Professor Sycamore to help in his research in Mega Evolution.
"Yea, me and Trevor got our starters a few years ago. It was an amazing feeling."
As Tierno reached down for something, Trevor handed the three a pokédex each.
"So here." He said, getting back up. "Now you bet to choose your starter!"
