As you stood there and chatted with the lady more, the lady seemed to sense you were genuinely interested in the necklaces. You continued to ask her different questions regarding the magic jewelry and she began to feel a special connection with you. Although you two hadn’t known each other for a while, the lady felt like you were the right person for her to pass the necklaces off to. This interest in the necklaces hadn’t been seen in anyone else since George passed away.
“I never got your name young man,” the lady said as you completely forgot to do a proper introduction with her.
“Oh my bad, I’m Mark,” you said as you reached your hand out to shake hers. She smiled.
“I like that name. My name is Joanna. I have to say, I’m glad you are interested in the necklaces.” Joanna tried to mentally compare Mark to George but couldn’t quite remember what George was like due to the previous swap. Mark, however, could.
“Based on the memories I have, it seems like you and George were happy together. I feel just as excited as he was when you told him about the necklaces,” you explained as you dug deeper into your new memories of Joanna’s deceased husband. She tried to recall such memories but could only get memories of you and Cindy. She could see visions of dinner dates and birthdays which made her slightly wish she could experience such experiences first hand. Thinking about it, Joanna was struck by an idea, perhaps you’d want to swap more with her.
“You know Mark, it’s been so long since I’ve used those necklaces, I miss it,” she stated as you looked at her a bit confused. You didn’t quite understand where she was going with this.
“How long has it been?” You asked. Joanna tried her best to recall the last time she used the necklaces but couldn’t as it was with George and you had the memory now. “Was it with George? From what I can tell, that was at least 5 years ago.” Joanna thought longer and realized that must be it.
“I think so. God, 5 years is such a long time. Not going to lie, this is kind of exciting.”
“Yeah I can see why. It’s weird having your hair and having memories of your husband.” Joanna waited a couple moments to build up the courage to ask to use the necklaces more. Using it with you, it just felt nice.
“You know Mark, I don’t know if I can let the necklaces go completely. We made a deal but… I miss using them. Would you ever consider maybe letting me use them every now and then?” You instantly felt conflicted. Sure, you did feel a bit connected with Joanna but technically the necklaces were now yours. Based on how she was speaking to you, it seemed like she wanted to use the necklaces with you not just on her own.
