"That is correct. We will monitor you over the next few weeks for any residual side effect. We can assure you that there will be nothing truly harmful."
"Alright. I hope this actually works as advertised, then. I'm being paid $500 bucks for this, so the least I can expect is to not get poisoned."
"We assure you, madamn, there will be no poisoning involved in this experiment."
You are a young woman who has decided to sign up for an experiment involving a new drug that's ostensibly designed to increase optimal performance by enhancing hormone production, or something along those lines. You weren't sure of the exact science, only that there had been a lot of buzz about how effective they'd proven to be during animal tests. That image of a little monkey bench-pressing a pickup truck was not one you were going to forget any time soon.
Naturally, there had been a lot of fervor to be chosen for the first human trials, and out of thousands of potential candidates, you were one of the few to be picked. That was why you were here, in an empty beige room consisting of nothing but a puke green carpet floor, an intercom, and a desk with a single red pill resting inconspicuously in a small, round plastic container.
You couldn't believe you'd actually made it this far. Well, technically, you didn't do anything except get chosen out of a raffle, but even so, a sense of exhilaration overcame you as you pinched the pill between your fingers. You knew, deep within your soul, that the moment you took this, your life, and the lives of those around you, would irrevocably change.
Little did you know just how extreme that change would be.
