Chapter #3

new body and life ahead

The nurse handed him a folder filled with documents. "These are all the legal forms for your new identity," she explained gently. "You'll need to go through them carefully. Your new name is Mariana. It's all set up so you can start your life again. You're officially a she now."
Mariana. The name rolled around in his head, feeling strange and foreign. He wondered what his family and friends were being told, why he had to die in their eyes so that he could live. How would his life be now trapped in a body that was so unlike his own?
Marcus took a deep breath and closed his eyes, trying to steady the tumultuous emotions that raged inside of him. He knew that he should feel grateful for the gift of life, but the cost was so high. He was no longer the person they knew, no longer the son, brother, or friend they had loved. In their eyes, he was gone.
A folder with some basic information about the person who became was handed to him:
He took the folder from her with trembling hands, his heart racing as he opened it to reveal the contents. Inside, there was a photo of Mariana, smiling brightly, her eyes sparkling with a joy that seemed to radiate from the page. She was beautiful, with porcelain skin and a delicate nose that tapered slightly at the tip. Her hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, framing a face that was both innocent and wise beyond its years.
As he scanned through the pages, he found a letter addressed to him. It was written in a neat, almost childlike handwriting, detailing her life story. Mariana had been a girl with a bright future ahead of her, full of dreams and ambitions, until she was struck by a tragedy. Her family had been killed in a car accident, leaving her with nothing but pain and loneliness. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't shake the grief that clung to her like a second skin. She had tried to find happiness, but it always felt just out of reach. And in the end, the darkness had consumed her, leading her to make the ultimate sacrifice so that someone else could live.
But there was something else, something that made his heart skip a beat. An inheritance. A substantial one at that. It seems Mariana had come from a wealthy family, and her assets had been transferred to him as part of the agreement for the transplant. A mix of shock and relief washed over him. He had been living paycheck to paycheck, trying to make ends meet, and now, he was rich. This could be his ticket to a life he never thought possible.
The following day, Marcus, now Mariana, was discharged from the hospital. The nurses and doctors had been incredibly supportive, but he could feel their curiosity burning through their professional facades. They all knew he was the first of his kind, a man trapped in a woman's body. As he stepped out into the bright sunlight, the reality of his new life began to set in. He looked down at his new reflection in the polished chrome of the hospital's sliding doors, the sun glinting off the girl's hair, and took a deep, shaky breath.
A chauffeur-driven car waited for him, a sleek black sedan with tinted windows. He slid into the back seat, feeling the cool leather against his bare legs, and handed the driver the address from the envelope. The car pulled away from the hospital, leaving the world he had known behind.
As they drove through the city, Marcus couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. The penthouse suite was a stark contrast to the tiny apartment he had called home. He had always dreamed of living in a place like this, with the city sprawling out before him like a glittering playground, full of possibilities. But now, as the car ascended to the top floor of the skyscraper, the weight of his new life settled heavily on his shoulders.
The doors opened to reveal a spacious foyer with marble floors and a winding staircase that led to a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the cityscape. The walls were adorned with expensive artwork, and the air smelled faintly of fresh flowers and money. He stepped inside, his heels clicking against the cold, hard surface, echoing through the empty space.
