The great desert just to the south of the Kingdom isn’t bereft of life. Quite the opposite, actually. Three great rivers (the Lyonus, the Frayteez and the Torva) split the desert in four equal parts, before all three rivers empty into the Cibian Sea within a few miles of each other, more than eight hundred miles south of the Kingdom.
The flood plains along the banks of the three great rivers are rich and fertile. In ancient times, great Empires centered around these three rivers rose and fell. Now there are only city-states and petty kingdoms along the rivers, with all of them in a constant state of warfare and cooperation.
At present, your adventuring lparty is sitting in the common room of The Crossroads Inn, in the city of Callerynta. Callerynta sits in the geographical center of the Kingdom, at the intersection of two Royal Highways. One of the highways runs north-south, between Kara and the main pass of the Kingdom’s Southern mountain range. The other Highway runs west-east, between Phesia (a port city on the Great Sea) and the main pass in the Kingdom’s Eastern mountain range.
The Crossroads Inn is within sight of the intersection.
Since the forest which is your destination lies less than fifty miles inland from the Great Sea, the fastest way to get to your destination would be to proceed west to Phesia, then sail south.
But you have a plains giant in your party, and plains giants and sailing ships do not mix. So your group will travel south along the Royal Highway to the main pass in the Kingdom’s Southern mountain range, and then decide where to go from there.
But all of this can wait until tomorrow, when you begin your journey. Tonight, your group is going to focus on getting a good night’s sleep.
