Chapter #2

It's Not Easy Being Greene

    by: Dex Author IconMail Icon
Burning rubber and screeching tires was the only thing Chuck wanted to think about right now. Just hours earlier he needed to kill his wife after she bit her own daughter after being zombified. Chuck didn't even have any time to process what had happened yet, but Vegas was toast, and Katey was safe. That's all that mattered, and it's all that *had* to matter right now. His second priority was getting his hands on some Zombrex - Katey would need it every 24 hours now. The wound on her tiny arm was still wet with blood. He really hoped that Zombrex dose would last the full 24 hours...

His only solace was the fact Fortune City had an ample supply of said Zombrex, on top of the offer to participate in the new "Terror is reality" Show - He'd declined at first, preferring to stay in Vegas.

To the right of the road a red pillar suddenly rose - An almost alien obelisk he'd never seen before. He turned his head, when he suddenly heard Katey's jaw opening almost impossibly, her teeth changed to animal like fangs, she leaped forward onto Chuck, biting deeply into his neck. He screamed an almost inhuman scream - as he awoke in his room. He was drenched in sweat, but he could still feel the bite in his neck. He examined the phantom wound. Nothing. "This same damned nightmare..." He got up and flushed his face with water. He was still in the bunker. Fortune City was attacked, just like Vegas. This time he only had Katey left. "I can't lose her too..." Chuck thought. In all the years being together, this is when he needed Pam the most...

Someone walked in "Hey Chuck, you doing alright? I heard you from my room..." It was Stacey Forsythe, A kind soul, and the leader of C.U.R.E.

"Look at this, one of my crew found it off a rogue Phenotrans patrol that was attacked. So weird, it was in a fancy black case. We don't think it's a weapon, maybe a prototype to deal with the zombies, somehow? If so i'd really rather not see it used..." Stacey said, a slight sadness in her face. Stacey was certainly empathetic, Chuck thought, maybe *too* empathetic - but that was neither here nor there. "Here, lemme try it. I got no qualms against that. We need something like this, anyway. I'm really sick of using fuckin' lawn chairs against the walking dead, anyway."

He took the Crimson device from Stacey. He took a look at the side of the device. There were instructions. He quickly glanced over them, it seemed to be some kind of communication device, or something like that. Either way, he wanted to see what it'd do. He held the trigger for three seconds... there was a deathly low hum, and a red flash. Everything went black.
