Chapter #3

The Truth Is Out There

    by: Dex Author IconMail Icon
Rebecca opened her eyes slowly. She wasn't in pain, quite the opposite, actually, she was comfortable in bed... but as she looked around, she noticed it wasn't her bed. Where was she? As she remembered was a red flash and - the device. It had to have done something. The room was too dark to really make anything out. Taking stock of her surroundings, She got up from the bed, and turned the light on. She looked down, she was wearing a green jacket with a shirt that said C.U.R.E on it, she definitely wasn't wearing that before. She quickly made her way to the bathroom and turned the light on. She looked in the mirror and saw Stacey Forsythe. She was the leader of C.U.R.E... and now, she was her . How was this even possible? But instead of feeling fear, she felt a pang of curiousity, and "This could sure help my . She felt herself over, looking over her new body. She ran her hands down her chest and "Well, being another woman isn't so bad. And the leader of C.U.R.E to boot..." She stared into her own now blue eyes, running through all the new opportunities this would allow her.

Rebecca checked the room for anything useful, her movements becoming more confident as she adjusted to Stacey’s body. She rummaged through Stacey’s bag, finding papers detailing C.U.R.E.’s activities and communication logs. "Huh, you sure have an eye for detail don't you, Stacey?"

Later that night, Rebecca returned to the same room and stared into the mirror again. She examined Stacey’s features, her fingers tracing the faint lines of worry etched into her borrowed face. For the first time, Rebecca felt a pang of guilt for ever doubting her.

Rebecca cocked her head to the side. "This isn’t just about a story anymore," she said aloud, "It’s about proving Stacey's and C.U.R.E's innocence... and mine too, if I’m stuck in her body..." Caressing her cheek gently, she stopped, wondering what she was doing. "Am I going to get my body back? Or am I going to be Stacey for-" She looked down, immediately pushing those thoughts back. That could come later. Right now she had a job to do.

The door behind her creaked open. Rebecca spun around, clutching the edge of the sink. Chuck Greene stood in the doorway, his expression a mixture of relief and confusion.

“Stacey?” he asked. “Are you okay? You’ve been out for a while.”

Rebecca hesitated, her mind racing. Should she tell him the truth? Would he even believe her? She turned back to the mirror, her reflection staring back at her like a stranger. For now, she had no choice but to play along.

“Thanks Chuck, i'm... i'm fine...” she said, trying to remain calm. “Just give me a minute.”

Chuck nodded, closing the door behind him. Rebecca turned back to the mirror, her fingers resting on her cheek. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the chaos inside her head.

But she couldn’t ignore it any longer... If she was in Stacey’s body, Was she in hers?

Her reporter's instincts set in, She needed answers. And if she was going to figure out what had happened and perhaps how to fix it, she’d have to do it as Stacey Forsythe.
