Chapter #6

Selene

by: John Johnny Johnson Author IconMail Icon
Selene woke up at sunrise in order to help her parents in Iki Town. The ran a small bakery and she liked to help where she could.

Turning on the ovens, she started baking the first load of goods, ready for when the store opened.

It was always a little busy in the mornings, people coming in for quick snack before going to do what they needed to.

As it started turning 8 o'clock, she started packing a few oran muffins. Right on time, the Kahuna walked in.

"Morning, Hala."

"Good morning to you too, Selene." He said joyfully.

She went to one side so not to get in her parents' way. "Here's your usual."

He took the muffins from her. "Thank you. I can't get enough of these."

"Um, Hala? I was wondering if I could take part in the Island Challenge?"

He was a little shocked by that. "Are you sure? You didn't seem that interested when we talked."

"I've given it some thought and... well, it's about tradition, isn't it? And if I go to the other islands, I could, maybe, come back with some new recipes to cook."

Hala smiled. "If you're sure, but it'll have to wait. I'm initiating an outsider in an hour."

"An outsider?"

"Kakui suggested it. I hope you don't mind."

"No, that's OK. I'll wait. Aloha."

She went back to work until her mother asked her to make a delivery to Emily at the Trainers' School.

Emily was always a sweet woman, she must have been busy to not get her pastries personally.

Selene put the crate on her bike wagon and made her journey to the school. She has a few close calls with the pastries attracting Rattatas and Yungees.

When she got to the school, she was directed to Emily's classroom and was surprised to see the class expecting her.

"Class," Emily said when Selene put the crate down, "would you like to say something?"

"Thank you, Miss. Selene."

She was very grateful to Emily for this surprise and couldn't help but smile, watching the children enjoying the baked goods.

Before leaving, Emily gave her a pokéflute as a final 'thank you.'

When she made it back to Iki Town, it was 9:30. Hala should have finished top with the outsider by now.

Giving her parents a goodbye hug, and made her way to the centre of town.

As she got close, she could hear Hala congratulating "Elio" on his starter. The name screamed Kantonian.

When she came into view, she didn't have time to greet him as a pokémon came right up to her.
