Piccolo was born as an antagonist, the incarnation of evil, son of King Piccolo. His past is already written: son of a villain, destined to do evil and to perpetuate what Lacan called "the name of the father." His only goal is to take revenge on Goku.
Over time, however, something changes. After facing Goku and meeting Gohan, he begins a journey of inner transformation, becoming a master and a protector. His origin and his blood do not define his destiny. He chooses to change the direction of his life.
The fusion with Nail, and with Kami, marks the definitive integration between his dark side and his positive side. Piccolo is no longer an enemy, but a fundamental ally. By uniting with the two Namekians he comes to terms with his nature, his culture and his past.
Orange Piccolo further symbolizes the acceptance of the duality of his personality: orange is a mix between yellow (warmth and vitality) and red (strength and aggression). Symbolically, Orange Piccolo represents the harmonious union between his dark past and his new positive identity.
Jung wrote:
"The shadow is that repressed thing, the lower part of the personality, the sum of all the unpleasant qualities that the individual does not recognize and which he projects onto others."
Piccolo's story teaches us that we are not defined by our past. Through hard work and reflection, it is possible to change and improve ourselves. According to Jung, integrating the dark parts of ourselves is essential for authentic growth. Piccolo also accepts his shadow and becomes a complete individual.
Sometimes we feel blocked by our shadows, our fears or past failures. But just like Piccolo, we can accept who we are and transform our dark sides into strengths and become a guide, a teacher for those who, like Gohan, are looking for their way.
We often suffer because we are children of terrible parents, who have not shown us love, support or understanding. We live, with difficulty, in the present, projected towards the future. Only by coming to terms with our past can we define our life in our own way, right or wrong.
