"Tally Ho," the Dwarf crowd cheered as their High Priest finished the ritual that would allow Zidane and Vivi to leave the city for the Ilfa Tree. Zidane was still a little upset that Dagger had refused to take part in the ceremony with him, after she had learned it would only allow two beings to go at a time.
Since she had refused to take part, and before she had taken Vivi to do it with her, which would have left Zidane with Quine. Zidane had quickly pulled the young Black Mage to undergo the ceremony with him instead. Zidane was able to recognize the ceremony as something akin to a wedding that he was used to back on the Mist Continent. Though the High Priest mentioned some things that the thief had a hard time understanding due to his accent.
In the end, the ceremony was finished, allowing Zidane and Vivi to leave the city. Dagger and Quine snuck out as everyone was distracted by the monkey-tailed male being married to a Pyntie-Het.
After the battle of the Ilfa Tree, where Dagger's mom had died before everyone returned to the Mist Continent, Zidane discovered something. While the Dwarf's ritual did not take place on his home continent, the fact that the Dwarfs had evidently submitted paperwork with the Moogles meant Zidane was legally married to Vivi. What was worse, Zidane found was due to the Dwarfs being more familiar with Vivi's kind than humans, Vivi had been listed as the dominant partner in their relationship.
Now, normally this would not be a problem; all one needed to do was get a divorce to end such a relationship, but according to the Moogles Dwarfs mated for life and used special magic on their wedding documentation so they could never be undone unless a partner died. The partner had to actually die and not just be knocked out and revived with a Phoenix Down.
Thus, Zidane found himself married to Vivi, and wanting to keep in good relations with the Dwarfs after finding out they had some rich minerals in the areas of their mountain home, both Dagger and Cid refused to try to reverse the contract. The remaining rulers of the Mist Continent even forced Zidane and Vivi to consummate their marriage to gain supplies for Cid's new line of Mistless Airships.
